Hi DTR

Have just found a very strange thing on the 1891 census

I was looking for James Colley and he appears on the census with

Edward Colley aged 14 stepson
Elizabeth Parry aged 54 wife
Richard Parry aged 50 head
Elizabeth Colley aged 54 sister in law widow

He is listed as aged 23 stepson

Did Elizabeth marry late in life?

By the way I dont know if you know this but Maria had a sister also called Harriet born 1891

She married a Jack Crowther and they had a daughter Dorothy (my great aunt) who never married (I dont even know if she is still alive)

Sorry I havent got any further dates but will let you know when I do

If you want the decendants of Maria PM me and I will e-mail them to you

Hiya DTR

I was searching about for Colleys and found this in 1871

John Packwood aged 34 b Upton, Worcs head
Jane Packwood aged 32 b Dodderhill wife
Alice Packwood aged 4 b Dodderhill daughter
George Packwood aged 7 b Dodderhill son
John Packwood aged 9 months b Dodderhill son
William Colley aged 70 b Dodderhill wifes father
Elizabeth Colley aged 66 b Dodderhill wifes mother

Source RG10/370
Folio 82

Any clues? Elizabeth is the right age and so is William (who we have as Edward)

Sorry I haven't e-mailed you with the rest of the info I promised by my e-mail is playing up after I brought a new computer - had to start my tree from scratch again gggrrrrr!

Hi Willow,

I have seen the Colley'/ Packwood family before but I can't find a link with our Colley's, our Elizabeth was a widow in 1861 (see info supplied by Gardener above) also I have Elizabeth Colley living with her son George and his kids in 1871 and with George and his Son Frederick in 1881.

Regarding the Colley's killed in the WWI I knew about Enos, he was my Grandmothers brother and she named her first born Enos after him, George Colley I am not sure about, did you think he may have been son of Martin Colley?

Please see below entry from CWGC Web site

Casualty Details
Name: COLLEY
Initials: G
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment: Worcestershire Regiment
Unit Text: 1st/8th Bn.
Age: 33
Date of Death: 28/04/1917
Service No: 240042
Additional information: Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Colley, of 12, Woodfield Rd., Droitwich.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: P. II. N. 15B.
Cemetery: ST. SEVER CEMETERY EXTENSION, ROUEN

Parents don't tie up do they? What do you think?

Cheers

Willow,

Further to your post re Colley's killed in WW1 see extract from 1901 Census of the family that lost the 4 brothers. As I stated in my earlier post, I can't find a link with our Colley's, but if you can, let me know.

Name   Age in 1901   Birthplace                                Relationship

Bertha Colley 11    Droitwich, Worcestershire, England   Daughter
Edward Colley 5    Droitwich, Worcestershire, England   So
Ernest Colley   8    Droitwich, Worcestershire, England   Son
George Colley 17    Droitwich, Worcestershire, England   Son
Harry Colley    1    Droitwich, Worcestershire, England   Son
James Colley   9    Droitwich, Worcestershire, England   Son
John Colley     3    Droitwich, Worcestershire, England   Son
Lizzie Colley    37    Droitwich, Worcestershire, England   Wife
Thos Colley     14    Droitwich, Worcestershire, England   Son
Wm Colley       37    Droitwich, Worcestershire, England   Head
Wm Harrison   19    Droitwich, Worcestershire, England   Son

I had made notes about this family family about 12 months ago when I searched the CWGC Web Site for Colley's & Reynolds from the Worcester Regiment, noting that  3 men (George,James & Ernest) appeared to come from the same family....to lose 4 sons must have been unbearable.

Thanks
DTR

George and Ernest were both sons of William - Elizabeths brother as far as I can tell - the ages match correctly to what I have pulled up of the census

James doesn't match - he would have been 27 not 29

In fact none of these appear on the CWGC lists and I only found them mentioned on this site
