Lloyd War History
« on: Wednesday 24 January 07 09:33 GMT (UK) »
Hya, Linda here,
This is my first post so if I do anything wrong, let me know!

I have a very dear friend who I'd like to help.  His father died when he was quite young and he would like to know about his war years.

The details he has given me are:

Harold Lloyd
Gunner: 1761115. : R.A.
previously a coal miner.
D.O.B. 23.09.1913

On his marriage certificate his residence is listed as:
Cambridge and his wife was also there (obivously lol) working as an Aircraft Frame Repairer. His home address was listed as Curry Street, Ebbw Vale?

I know this isn't a Staffordshire question but it's a start for me!

Various family members have told him that his father was in Italy, was a dispatch rider, was in an anti-aircraft regiment, at Bergen Belsen, at the D-Day beaches, had 3 or 4 medals and no one has any evidence!

He has given me a photo which shows him wearing brades but the picture is in sepia!

Any advice, suggestions etc would be very much appreciated.
Best wishes,
Linda

Hi Cannocklass

Welcome to Rootschat.  It might be worth starting at the National Archive in London.  I am not sure about this, but it is probably the case that WWII service records are probably time limited which means they might not be accessable yet.  However, it would be worth contacting them to see what is available.  There are also various military sites on the internet which are very useful, often there are ex  servicemen who can help in answering any questions you may have.

Good luck in your search

Thank you for that!
I have downloaded the SAR's form and will give it my friend to process.

Hello, I'm just meandering around the board and came across your entry......
I think that the street that you are referring to is actually Curre Street which is situated in Cwm (at the end of Ebbw Vale), you can view it on google earth.
The Heritage Centre in Ebbw Vale may be able further.
