Link: Manchester burial records - web site
« on: Thursday 18 January 07 12:37 GMT (UK) »
hi

this has probably been around for ages, but i havejust found it myself, and thought i would post of for the ones who have not seenit either

www.burialrecords.manchester.gov.uk

its a fab website for searching the burial/cremation records for any ancestor that may be in a manchester cemetery
its a pay per view basis but well worth it

the info it gives you is
burial date
section grave number
and even who else is in the grave

i myself have had loads of success from it, I have found graves that i have been looking for for ages

Ann

goldy - after checking it seems that Boarshaw will come under Rochdale rather than Manchester council. This is a link to their webpage - they will do searches for you at £23 a time!  :(

This is an excellent site, but as yet incomplete!
Gorton, Phillips Park and Southern cemeteries are more or less complete.
"Manchester and Blackley will be available to search soon." is the message on the site.
When I e-mailed them to ask when "soon" was they said they did not know!
Have to keep checking ::)

kooky - some cemetery records are also available at Manchester Central Library - your profile doesn't say whereabouts you are, so don't know if this is accessible for you. Here's the link to what they have
http://www.manchester.gov.uk/Libraries/arls/famhist.htm#Cemetery%20Records%20and%20Monumental%20Inscriptions
They will do limited research for you - there are details on their site.

That explains why I couldn't find my gran's grave when I know the exact date of death etc.
