I am looking for information about the family of William Ponting/Ponton SCREEN b circa 1814 master mariner, possibly from the Thornbury area. Thanks.

Found a entry on the 1851 census,

William Ponting age 37  staying with his sister and brother in law. born in Alveston
Anis Smith age 4 
George Smith age 33

Could not make out what he did for a living.

Yes, the correct one, but he seems to have popped up from nowhere....the only clue being" born in England.

I have looking at Gloucestershire & Staffordshire since there seems to have been concentrations of Screen's there , but after 35 year of looking..... nothing. I am still hoping to link up with a Screen researcher who knows more than I do!!!

I have come across a merchant seaman registration entry from 1835 listing a William Screen age 25 born Derry. I assume that this refers to Londonderry in Ireland.

There is a Ruth SHEARN marrying a John PONTING 15 April 1819 Midsomer Norton, Somerset


There is also a Bond which states :John PONTING was from Kilmersdon, Gloucestershire
