St Columb Minor Death record - Arthur
« on: Monday 15 January 07 09:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Can some kind person do a look up for me and try to help breakdown a brickwall.

I am trying to find the date of death for William Arthur, born 1779 in St Columb Minor.  ( my great x 3 grandfather)

I have found William on the 1851 census in St Columb Minor with wife Mary and daughter Nancy. William's age is given as 75.

Mary died in 1855 but I can find no trace of Williams death or of him on the 1861 census.

There is a death in 1857 of a William Arthur, but the death certicate shows this is not him as this William is aged 44 and died in St Breock.

Could it be his death wasn't registered?

Thank you so much in advance for your help.

Janet ( nee Arthur)

Kris,

Thank you so much - he is certainly not in the Registers in 1858 from what I could see so the burial date makes so much difference.

An interesting note on Marys burial - from her  death cert, I have her death date of  13th June 1855, in Churchtown, and wife of William Arthur, (which fits the burial record) but her age is given as 69. So between Death and burial she appears to have aged 5 years.  ???! but as baptised born in 1782, 74 is more acurate.

Thank you once again,

Janet  :)

LOL. You have to laugh don't you. That is a good one isn't it. Aged 5 years in 2 days. We do see some horrible inconsistencies in records. I see William is also too old by his 1779 baptism and census records but he is the only likely I can see. There does not appear to be another William Arthur about in 1851 to account for this burial, and with a Churchtown address I think he is your man. I thought the spelling Aurthur from the burial record may have been a clue but alas it hasn't helped with a GRO death record........Best Wishes...... Kris  :)

Kris,

just wondered if your burial records for St Columb Minor cover 1898, trying to find out where GGrandfather, James Arthur was buried.

He died March 1898 in Miners Hospital, Redruth, but as a son of St Columb Minor, I wondered if he was taken "home"?

Many thanks

Janet

Sorry Janet,

James does not appear into have been buried at St Columb Minor. The only Arthur listed for 1898 is Aaron Arthur aged 70 from Churchtown 27 Nov 1898

Kris,

Just thought I would let you know  -  I think I have found James Arthur, died 1st March 1898, buried in Chacewater.

There is a burial record on OPC site for James Arthur, age 32, residence Redruth, buried 5th March 1898.

I know from James death cert, he was 32, and lived in Kenywn, so with absence of memorial record, and only one James Arthur, age 32, recored in the right GRO quarter, I assume this is Great Grandad.

So I can now finally place ( with grateful thanks to you) the last resting place of

Great Great Great Grandfather William Arthur, ( still no trace of a GRO record)
Great Great Grandfather, Aaron Arthur, ( died 1898)
and now Great Grandfather James Arthur

Best regards

Janet

That is excellent news Janet. Sounds good. I am so pleased for you. So pleased to have helped, particularly with ggggrandfather and no GRO Death Record. It is always lovely to solve an elusive one like this where I can see that without the burial record, William would have remained a mystery. Thanks for filling me in  ;D...........Cheers Kris  :D
