Davies / McKillop
« on: Sunday 14 January 07 01:40 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the marriage of a Edward Davies and Flora Mckillop
and perhaps any other children they may of had.

One son was John Davies born 6 Oct 1857 Newarthill, Bothwell, Lanark.

I also know that Edward Flora and family left Scotland I am thinking perhaps early 1870's sometime  went to New Zealand. John spent about 15 years in New Zealand before going to Australia, where he had 5 children with his wife Catherine. I am unsure if Edward and Flora or any other members of the family also went to Australia or if they stayed in New Zealand.

I would be grateful of any help at all. I'm sorry I dont have any other information on Edward or Flora

Thanking you
Christine

Hello Christine,

The following children are found by doing a parent search on the online IGI.

JANET DAVIES - Birth: 06 NOV 1855 Bothwell, Lanarkshire
JOHN DAVIES - Birth: 06 OCT 1857 Bothwell, Lanarkshire
EDWARD DAVIES - Birth: 22 NOV 1866 Bathgate, West Lothian
PETER DAVIES - Birth: 23 AUG 1870 Bathgate, West Lothian

The parents and these four children are in Armadale (Bathgate parish) on the 1871 census. That will show the birthplaces of the parents. The 1855 birth certificate is a bonus. 1855 as the first year of civil registration gave certificates with far more detail than in any other year.

The parents' 1854 marriage entry in the OPRs should be available to download later this month. The childrens' birth certificates should all be available for you to download from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk on a pay-per-view basis.

By the 1881 census, they were in New Monkland, Lanarkshire with three of the children (except John). Flora's mother was with them on that census.

I was always under the impression that his whole family went to New Zealand, I dont know why I thought that. Most likely that my-self thinking that a 14/15 year old child would never do this journey alone. I know they did, but just never thought of it.

ADP, would you be able to send me a copy of the 1871 and 1881 census?

Thanking you Cazay and ADP :)

When the registration districts of Bothwell and Holytown were split apart in 1855, LDS kept with the name of the original parish for the lot, Bothwell. This was the method they used throughout Scotland.

Thank You Thank You....

You guys are awesome....
An a special thank you to you ADP for sending those census transcripts to me...
They helped me a great deal and I have now just been and got a copy of originals from Scotlandspeople. Thank you for your advice to get the originals.  In there I also found Edwards parents and all his brothers and sisters. And I think now with his father being born about 1796 I will need to  find parish records.
