Not me  :)  It was Shaun :)  Thanks Shaun.

So Frank and Elizabeth were in Sale in 1940.   Probably at 6, Irlam Road. Frank Hurst was living there when they married.  Apparently Frank had been divorced.
They moved, as Shaun says to Stretford before 1950.  Their new address is 24, Cressingham Road.  Apparently they are both there till 1959 - when I think Frank died.  Elizabeth was there in 1963.

IF my assumption is right and that the Airctaft Works where Frank worked was in Trafford Park (Metrovicks?), then it could be moving nearer to where he worked.

Is Stretford in Manchester??   Stretford is north of the Mersey, was in Lancashire and part of manchester.  Sale is south of the Mersey, was in Cheshire, was not in Manchester    They are now both in Greater Manchester and both are in Trafford, a borough of GM.
Why do you ask, Annie?

Cressingham Road may warrant a visit.

I asked - because I kept thinking we were supposed to be looking "over the water "

and that's Cheshire ...  ::)

But maybe we should be looking in Manchester for clues .... is that right ??  :-\ now I'm all turned around !!

I found houses for sale in Cressingham Road !!  ;D

Annie

Strictly speaking Sale is in Cheshire but is on a Manchester post code/zip code of M33 and its local govt is Trafford, which covers parts of Mcr too!

Too confusing!

What a fascinating thread. I have taken over 2 hours to read it.
What a smashing lot you are to give so much time and effort to trying to locate this man's rellies.
Michel, I do hope that there is a successful outcome to this search.

Good evening Kesannah,

Also I hope with all my heart, that would be really wonderful, God can hear you.

I received the following from Crosby Library which may be of some help:

Thank you for your two e-mails.  Unfortunately I have been unable to
find out where Robert William Stead was buried.

The two Anglican Churches in the area with graveyards are St. Helen's
Church in Sefton & St. Luke's in Crosby, we have the index for both, but
he is not listed.  Nor is he listed in the Roman Catholic Cemetery at
Ford or Ince Blundell.

If he was Roman Catholic he may have been buried at S.S. Peter & Paul's
Church, Crosby.  I think the church has its burial index you can contact
them on
0151 928 3456 or ssppaul[at]aol.com

The other possibility is Bootle Cemetery, you will need to contact
Thornton Garden of Rest 0151 924 5143.

Another way of finding out where he was buried is to try and find an
obituary or a death notice in a local newspaper.  If you contact
Liverpool Record Office the staff their should be able to tell you which
local newspapers would be worth looking at for Gateacre in the 1920s.
0151 233 5817
recoffice.central.library[at]liverpool.gov.uk

This maybe a long shot; but in Crosby in the nineteenth century there
was a Stead family many of whom were pillars of the Methodist community
in the area.  It is possible that he might be related to them, and
therefore connected to a Methodist Church in Gateacre.

I hope that this has been of help and I hope you are able to find the
burial place of Robert William Stead.

Yours sincerely

It was good to receive such a helpful reply

I'm so glad this thread started up again, I've been reading it since it was only around 20 pages long.

He seems to be exteremely elusive in death!  Maybe his family did bury him as a methodist  :-\

Well done everyone, you're doing a brilliant job, he can't hide forever!!

Hello All

Shaun found Frank and Elizabeth at 24, Cressingham Road, Stretford.  (Frank died in 1959?)
Elizabeth was on her own at 24, Cressingham Rd in 1963.  She moved to 'Liverpool to be with her sister' in January 1965.

Timperley Lodge Nursing Home, where Elizabeth was a Maternity Nurse in 1940 is now and has been for some time a private house.   No records available.

I'll PM other details to Annie because we may be affecting living people.

Regards

She moved to 'Liverpool to be with her sister' in January 1965.

Her sister ... that would be Jeanie Graham Grant born 1893 ... now what do we know about her?
