Thornton Crematorium does hold a book of rememberance as I used it for my own mother but you need the date of the death and if the family had it recorded in there for Elizabeth and also the local paper for Crosby is The Crosby Herald and I think they belong to the same group as the Liverpool Echo.

I have a hunch that cremation was not a popular option in 1926.

If I am wrong I stand corrected, but I did not ever hear any of my Dad's family mention cremation. They were all that vintage.  I reckon that a burial is most likely.

How about everyone in Liverpool and surrounding area asking about among their friends, and how about something on the local radio or TV channel to find any relis!

They would have to prove their relationship of course!

That's great to hear Edna - and of course we do have Elizabeth exact DOD ( Reply #577 Today )!  Not going up that way by any chance  ;D  ;D  ;D

Hi Rabbit B
Quite agree - I would not expect Robert to have been cremated, not in 1926 (I don't believe Edna was referring to him though, but to Elizabeth!)
Word of mouth does fantastic things - and I think a lot of effort has gone into trying to get it into the Echo (or more recently Daily Post?) (see earlier in topic)  (I can't understand this not working out - My Aunt had articles printed in the Echo and they had a great result)

Yes I believe Robert was buried, and very possibly a death notice was placed in a newspaper, possiby several notices - and pssobly a notice would have been placed up to 10 days or so after the funeral - a thankyou from his wife.

Cheers
AMBLY

Thornton is an interment cemetery as well as cremitorium and I was talking about Elizabeth who died more recently not Robert and it covers the area of Crosby where she last was known to be living.

AMBLY just been past it at the weekend but not due again just yet to go that way.

So far as Thornton Cemetery is concerned

The Book of Remembrance will only have the details of Elizabeth Hurst and maybe a verse which was chosen at the time.

The details of who organised/authorised the funeral are not allowed to be divulged.

HOWEVER, I've managed to get the lady at the crem interested enough to investigate with their electoral rolls whether this person is still at the address they have for them (actually it's a him but that's a bit of a secret), and if he is she can try to contact him and ask him to phone me.  She may not be able to look into this until tomorrow so we may have to wait in patience.

Yes I did throw some of the names found on here at her, also the beneficiaries name and witnesses, but it doesn't appear to be any of them, nor is it Hurst.
