The address in Eshe Road is haunting me.

Could the beneficiary have arranged the funeral and therefore connection questionable?

Quick thought before work !

Elizabeth Neil Hurst - date of death 19th January, 1990 - was cremated and her ashes scattered in Thornton's Garden of Remembrance.

So no leads to any family grave there.

Thornton wasn't open in 1926 so no good checking there for Robert William Stead.

OK I don't know how much time I have before I have to go out but this is what I have found so far.

The files from the Solicitors in question are held in the Law Society Archives and I have their phone number.

The two partners are still working for other Solicitors in the Liverpool area, one of which I don't particularly want to contact because of the firm he's working for but maybe as a last resort, I'll try the other one first, but wonder whether the archives would be better......

Avidly watching this thread, all my family from that area of Liverpool as you know Mary, please may I know the contents of the will, you will gather that I am only on page 12 so far!

*UPDATE*

I have received the following back from Central Library  :( :( :(

Quote

Hello Dawn

Thank you for your enquiry.

I have searched both Kirkdale and West Derby Cemeteries for the burial of Robert William Stead without success. I also tried Ford and Yew Tree Cemeteries with no luck. It is possible that Robert was buried in a churchyard, but as we have the records of several churches that include burials, this could involve an extensive search. I have attached details of our research service to this message.

I am sorry not to have been able to help with your enquiry.

Janice Utting
Liverpool Record Office.

I'll update the cemetery list (see reply #537)

Further to my earlier posting re Bootle, I've sent an email to Thornton crematorium where the records are kept apparently. I did phone but they finish at 4.30pm and didn't answer the phone.

I'll let everyone know the outcome.

Further to my message on previous page I was refering to the Lulworth Rd Southport address page 4&5 but it isnt clear if this was followed up or not.

I lost touch with the Steads years ago but they may still be in the Bootle area if anyone has a Bootle Liverpool phonebook to look them up I know the names but not sure if allowed to post them on here.

I just realised that we have definite proof of Robert's religious persuasion. He was Church of England - it's engraved on the wrist tag that started all this !
