I tried to refresh my memory on this thread and found that there are a number of messages missing.  Messages posted by Retiringtype for instances are referred to but are not there, also I think maybe some by "Julia".

Can anybody tell me why would this be please since there is a definite loss of continuity?  Maybe a moderator could give an explanation.

The reason why you can't find posts by "Retiringtype" is that a while back I decided to be a bit less retiring and I changed my user name . The posts should still be visible but will now appear to be from "ShaunJ".

I noticed that earlier this morning also. Was that on another topic or a different  area of conversation on site?
In fact on reading it I have sent it to a family friend who is a Stead by marriage but they are from Yorkshire. They have done their family tree so will be able to check it. They will get back I am sure.
Hopefully BB will take it somewhere. Get the listeners in Liverpool talking.

Thank you for clearing that up.

I wondered whether there was a family grave rather than a new one in 1926 - maybe Anfield or somewhere near where his parents used to live.

Has someone checked the persons name and date of death ( Do you have them? I can't remember.) with all the Cemetery Offices in the area. I have to ring my local office on occassion as I do War Graves and that shows the amount of names sometimes that you find in one grave. You may be looking at Smith and then also on the headstone there could be up to any amount of names. I have found my local office extremely helpful. Plus I took some American Friends to the Grandparents graves in Newcastle. I actually via mobile phone was guided to the unnumbered grave it didn't have a headstone either. People are fantastically helpful at times. Regardless whose grave he is in if the dates are there they can look it up for you and ring you back. They may even suggest if you have the info someone may go in and look through the books they have for each Cemetery,
Its just a thought,

Unfortunately I know from previous experience that the look up service for a burial in Liverpool Cemeteries costs £10 per cemetery per year.

Just so you know ... I've been through every single tombstone named on this site .... twice !!

http://www.old-merseytimes.co.uk/Merseysidegraveyards.html

The list on this site is tremendous ...... and if you really look into the site - very involved !! lots and lots of hours by a lot of people at the Liverpool Records Office - walking graveyards this summer has been a pastime of a few people also !!  :) even over the water and outlying areas !! - many people and hours have gone into trying to find this soldier ....

We were never able to find his Mum and Dad's grave either !

Group photos of soldiers in many regiments were taken during WW1.  I wonder if the photographic department of the Imperial War Museum would be able to trace any photographs of the soldier's regiment.  I have forgotten if the regiment was known.  Some photos have captions naming both the officers and men.

Perhaps there is a slim chance that the officers names on photographs are indexed or is this wishful thinking?

I'm sorry to say - it's wishful thinking Gateacre !!  :)

The MGC Assoc have been looking - The Liverpool Kings Regiment have been looking and WW1 experts have been looking ... so far all the details we have - are on the thread .... it's really weird that the family fell off the radar ! .... with his Dad's middle name being "Harley " .... unusual for Liverpool ......  ::) you'd think he would be easy to find !!
