Hi Mary !

The information that we had at the start of this thread about Robert William's service - came from his own service records file from the National Archives  .... one of the lucky ones that wasn't destroyed in the Blitz !!

Michel has the file .... and that's what he's been trying to take his leads from ..... different people see different things !! ............ and he wanted to find another angle ! ...... and boy ! have we found different angles !!  :)

He's also been in contact with the Machine Gun Corp .......... I said at the beginning that my goal was to try and find "family" ..... all the service side had been addressed ......

I think a bit of respite will be good for us .... I know for myself ... I've been so wrapped up in this .... I can't see wood for trees .... and I'm thinking too hard ........ ( is that possible ?? ...........  :) )

I will keep on top of the Echo ........... but of course if anybody has any good ideas at all please post ....

Like everybody who's been involved with this thread ..... it really would be LOVELY to have a positive conclusion !!

Annie  :) :)

Too right!!

Tidying up a couple of loose ends, I've updated the website again.

No longer required

I've also had a telephone call from the Archivist at St Stephens who doesn't appear to have heard of "The Cot" on Grange Lane, perhaps the name has changed since then.  He also made a suggestion of Childwall Abbey for the grave.

He's taken a note of the details and dates when our Robert would have lived in Gateacre and will get back in touch with me if he is able to tell us anything, also he'll pass on the information to somebody else who may be able to help.

I HEAR what you're saying Michel about Liverpool ....... !!   :-\ :-\ :-\

And the picture thread has been a favourite ... I keep going back to it !!  :)

Mary .... I tried Childwall Abbey and St Peters Woolton ! ..... But he really could be anywhere ... I know with my own Dad ... he died in Gateacre and was cremated with ashes spread in Widnes !! ..................   ::)

Thank you so much for the web site -  it's very informative and helpful to get my "head around "..... you know me - I keep losing the plot !!  ::) ::) :P

Now we just have to "hurry up and wait " !!  ( that's SO hard for me to do ..... ) and hope for the best !!

Yes Michel, I too hear what you are saying, however, I think there might be an interest but they are being sensible in waiting until all avenues have been tried before he makes the enquiries with his committee rather than them reaching a decision and then having to regress because somebody has been found.

I sincerely hope that after all of this we can find a satisfactory conclusion to our search, after reading about all the help you have given on the other site, you certainly deserve a good result.

I'm going offline shortly for a while but before I go..I would like to thankyou all again for the overwhelming feeling you have given me for your generosity..kindness..time and steadfastness you have all shown...it is by far the most moving thread I have ever read on this forum :)

michel51..your kindness...humanity and devotion as inspired me..I hope and pray that the "treasure"you found will someday reach its rightful place..I have a feeling it WILL....good luck.

And last but not least...Liverpool Annie..I remember well when I joked about you being my mentor..now you truly are...your dedication..research and again you devotion is an inspiration..my sincere thanks for that.

Good luck..good health and God bless you all.

Derek.

My Mum went to school at St Margaret's Anfield .... ( I wonder if she knew our Robert  ? :) )

I don't know if things have changed ..... but when I was trying to get records a few years ago they didn't have any .... except teacher records .... but I'm wondering if there would be any pupil records for other schools in the area ? ...... ( of course I realise he mightn't have gone to school there ....... it was just a thought ! )

Does anybody know ??

Annie  :)
