No it's not going to be straightforward to follow him through Annie, the only marriage I see for John E Richards in the right place isn't until 1929 to an Eva Rosney, West Derby Register Office or Registrar attended so it could have been an RC marriage, but there could easily be others and not knowing which year.  Wish they had a more unique surname like the Creases and Dobells.

Son of Mrs. Richards, of 20, Victoria Drive, Orrell Park, Liverpool, and the late R. W. Richards.

So it would seem that the family moved just around the corner between 1901 and 1916.
