Good Sunday Morning to all!

To bring you up to date on my doings yesterday afternoon.

Firstly I wrote a letter to a possible descendant of the Crease family, but who doesn't live in the Merseyside area any longer, so we will need to wait until at least the middle of next week to see if we get any response, although I have included my email and telephone number for contact.

Then I went on a Magical Mystery Tour.

Firstly I checked the house where the last known Crease lived, possible husband of the one I wrote to, just to see whether they were able to tell me anything about previous owners, whether they had died or just moved away etc.   Unfortunately nobody was at home. :(

Then I drove past Victoria Road where Elizabeth Hurst died.  It is a huge building which is probably now individual flats or sheltered accommodation, although there was no sign outside to say so, this might be why Annie could find no mention of this address.

Eshe Road is where Elizabeth wrote her Will, where one of the witnesses lived (name was difficult to read) and also the address of the beneficiary.  Again this is a large old house and together with the one next door appear to be individual accommodation in the form of flats run by the Abbeyfield Society.  There were various names on the doorbells but none of them meant anything to our search.  The only other bell was for the office, so of course I tried this and also knocked on the door - can you believe there was no answer!

My last call was to a flat in Nicholas Road, Crosby where I believe the other witness to the Will lived - Alice M Chaddock.  Although it was a little difficult to read this is what I made of the name and it was confirmed by an entry in the Historical Electoral Rolls at the address.  This was the only address where I found somebody in, unfortunately the lady of the house said that Alice had died about four years ago.  Another dead end.

I suppose since Elizabeth died in 1990 it's really hardly surprising that I was chasing dead ends but maybe it was worth it to just eliminate this line of enquiry.  The only thread of this left is the actual beneficiary herself who we don't know anything about.  I could try a letter to Eshe Road but I have a feeling that I wouldn't get very far with that, any mention about being a beneficiary in a will would make them think it was a begging letter.

I have a photograph of each of the houses but I'm not sure they would be worth posting unless anybody really wants to see any.

After that I went out partying to cheer me up  ;D ;D

Oh Mary what a day..Again all so close but yet so far. So we had the one name right  but beaten by the years.
I too am disappointed that nobody answered you at the office in Eshe Road if the warden had been there a while they may know who we are looking for. So now the waiting game...weekends! They can slow things down can't they? LOL !

Yes, we do seem to have slowed down a little, however the reverse is true, without the Saturday afternoon I wouldn't have been able to make the trek down to Crosby  :) :)

Mary,

I am at the same time confused and charmed to understand that you sacrificed your week end to seek new elements in this fabulous investigation.

I thank you very very much, my heart is with you and, as John said previously, Robert STEAD, where that he is, perhaps in the middle of nowhere, must be happy from what occurs for its memory.

Michel

Hi all: Just thought I read the new replies. Mary, you are amazing! You really deserve a pat on the back for being such a busy bee yesterday. I'd be interested in seeing pictures of the places you visited, if you're up to posting them.

Psst, everyone but Mary: She's all the more amazing since in her Rootschat profile she declares that she's 154 years old! (I was so stunned to learn that a few months back that I had to send her a birthday greeting when her day was announced on the bottom of the home page.) And to top off her whirlwind day, she spent last night partying. (I'll bet it was eating and dancing and drinking and lots of young admirers crowding about, wasn't it?) I'm well over 140 years younger than she is, and my weekend excitement consisted of falling asleep at 11:30 pm with a book that I was too tired to read--in New York City, no less!

But I suggest that our pats on her back should be soft and gentle ones. People her age need the sensitive touch. :D :D :D

It was a good party last night, next door neighbour's 40th combined with his son's 18th, I tripped the light fantastic, loadsa boogeying, yes I do remember the twist from my youth  ;D so I'm glad I did the run around yesterday afternoon as I certainly wasn't up to it today  ;D ;D

OK - photos!

First one is the suspected last known residence of Robert I Crease, not mentioning the address since it's now somebody else who lives there, or at least I would believe so.  Address was obtained from the Will of Norah May Dobell who mentioned him as "cousin".

Next is 14 Victoria Road, Waterloo where Elizabeth Hurst died.  I have amended my previous posting as I incorrectly had this as where she was living when she wrote the Will.  Judging by other properties in the street this could have been some kind of nursing home at the time, but doesn't appear to be so now as there isn't a sign outside, but a couple of cars which make me assume that it is now flats.
