Hi RT

So we have two apparently quite separate Dobell companies with links between Liverpool and London.

I noticed this, but like you I have yet to make the connection, if there is one  ???  However Alfred Dobell seems quite prominent.

While I'm here I'd just like to say thank you for all your input, you have covered a good angle and, like everyone else's it's been invaluable, but you and I have not "spoken" before  :D

Thanks Wendi.

I'm putting circumstantial stuff on the board if it seems appropriate because (a) it's somewhere to park it and (b) it might help someone else to make a connection.

Incidentally the firm of Alfred Dobell & Co Ltd seems still to be in existence:

Annie,

A few thoughts  on the synopsis of the story for the Echo, thinking about the human interest appeal of the feature (most of this they could pick up from this thread but the reporter may need some help to pick out the story):

- mention that Robert joined the MGC as a private, was wounded, and rose through the ranks to be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant
- mention some details about people and places - who his Mum and Dad were, where they lived, what they did; his sister Nora May, and her husband George Dobell, and where they lived; and the connection to the Crease family and their music shops in Liverpool in the 1930's.
- tell the Echo about the tragically short marriage of Robert to Elizabeth Neil Grant, with Robert dying in 1926 at the age of 30 after just 5 years of marriage, and where they lived in Gateacre.
- it would be good to get a picture of Michel  in the Echo, with the wrist tag; after all this quest is the result of Michel's sincere and heartfelt desire to return the tag to Robert's family

Believe me Annie that picture is not a good likeness - I've had a haircut and you wouldn't recognise me now.

Anna,

I wait this moment since so a long time…. of course, I am ready, I am in fright.

I follow your thread hour per hour, minute per minute, message per message!

In fact, have help from a newspaper from Liverpool was one of the first wishes I had when I entered in contact, one year ago, with Judith LAPPIN, from Machine Gun Corps Old Comrades Association, but at this moment no possibility I think.
(Judith's great grand'fater is buried in british cemetery near my home an I flowered his grave, one day,
with a withe rose, white like the dove of peace).

   Evening all...

RT .... I think you have set it all out wonderfully we do not want to put them off with too much info but we need them to bite so that says it all.

Michel...  Annie does so much on this site her enthusiasm is infectious. After all the care you have given this small token I hope we can do our best to keep it treasured for the future.

Annie...over to you girl  ..been up to my eyeball's last couple of days too many late nights earlier this week.

michel, Bonsoir - and please no French - your English is far better than mine! Thank you for your kind messages.

We have non temps avec Rootschat ! Annie has been reveille at 4.30am in USA to view this thread!!!

Don't be frightened it will have a good result. Of that I'm sure.

You are a wonderful person, to have kept faith with this that you found, we just must wait a little longer.
