I now think the Pritchard connection is a red herring Annie. Looking at the 1901 image, numbers 72 and 74 Rockfield are clearly separate households.
My guess is that Emily Stead completed the forms showing her father as Head ( of the household, not his name!), but with a note to the effect that he wasn't actually there on census night, so the enumerator ignored the absentees but transcribed the rest of the entries faithfully. Hence there is no Head of the household at 74 Rockfield. It starts with Emily as Daur. (the later mistranscription of Stead as Head is another story)
But who was Elspet the nurse?
I agree with the red herring bit, thought I'd mentioned it quite a while ago that it appeared the parents were "away" but that presumably they still lived there so Emily was listed as "daughter". I also wondered about Elspet but assumed - rightly or wrongly that she has been dittoed by mistake.
I cannot read the two names signed at the bottom of the will.... again best not put them on here... I even blew them up but still cannot make it all out.
The second name I can't make out, possibly one of her friends at the time of making the will since the address is the same, also note the last word looks like "Retired". If it was somebody of similar age to herself, as the writing is shaky, then likely no good to us now. I did try what I thought the name might be in 192.com but no results.
The other one (also noted as "retired") I checked 192.com and she is listed on an Historical Electoral Roll, although not (at least on that site) on the current roll, nor with a phone number. There is no death listed in the 1984-2004 database, I suppose it's a 50/50 chance she's died in the last 2-3 years, or could she still be living? but may have moved during the last couple of years. The only way of enquiring would be by personal visit.
Opinion please as to whether this would be worthwhile.Well done Linda for the death and funeral details.
Opinions pleaseAm I allowed to quote the details in full on the family tree? I know Linda was asked to remove the mention of money for this thread but as this presumably came from an entry online, would it be permissible for me to quote it, and
please Linda can you give me the link where it came from for the source details.
Annie I don't think Dobells are particularly scarce on the Wirral, I think in that case we need to stick to some who are known to be related to our George..... if anybody can relate them ??
Wendi, I'll add those census and marriage details to the tree, but I think I agree with you that if we get down to anybody living the relationship would be too far.
