Bairstow Family Northowram Yorkshire

Hi all

My ancestor Jacob Bairstow married Sarah Garth in 1826 Halifax Yorkshire (Source: IGI) and they migrated to South Australia in 1838. They had Joseph, Robert, Hannah and Abraham. I am descended from Joseph who married Catherine Halls Adelaide South Australia.

I have found the children's baptisms in the IGI but I wish to find out who Jacob & Sarah's parents were and if there are any other family still in Yorkshire that I do not know about.

Can anyone help me please? :)

Have you seen the marriage cert? Before 1837 is a hassle — you would need to get a parish register lookup. It may give you father's names and occupations and then you can look the rest of the family up in the censuses.
I had a quick look at the 1841 and there LOTS of Bairstows in Halifax, even more lots in Yorkshire!

My copy of IGI gives two marriages of Jacob BAIRSTOW at Halifax on 27 Nov 1826, one to Sarah GARTH, and one to Sarah FIRTH - one must be a transcribing error.
The Halifax marriages have been transcribed by the Calderdale (Halifax) FHS, as GARTH, both are from Northowram, Jacob is a Weaver (loads of weavers in Halifax).  No fathers name given in that period.
Looking at the 1851 census, for Halifax there are only 9 GARTH's, about 20 GATH's, but loads of FIRTH's and BAIRSTOW's, so not much to go on here.
I will try to get a look at the original Parish Register, but I expect it will be very difficult to read and decide if it is GARTH, GATH, or FIRTH.
