BARRET Family
« on: Tuesday 09 January 07 18:25 GMT (UK) »
Hiya,

Has anyone got any Barret's listed in their tree from Sutton Bridge, Lincs?

I have a Rosetta Barret b1841 in Sutton Bridge, to parents Samuel & Mary.  Rosetta left the UK to start a new life in NSW, aboard the Beejapore in 1857.  She met Thomas Elford on board the ship & they married July 1858 in Dungog, NSW.  Rosetta died Jan 1899, in NSW, in a horse & buggy accident.

Thomas & Rosetta had 10 children - I have the names, birthdates etc for these children.

Regards

Hi
What exactly are you looking for?   Have you looked to see which church in Sutton Bridge or nearby she might have been baptised in?  www.genuki.com should help there.   If it is not on the IGI on www.familysearch.org then you can get the film of that particular parish to search at your nearest LDS centre.  They are worldwide.  Looking through that film should show up other family members.  If you can find her parents marriage that might help.   Her birth certificate will give her mother's maiden name.   You can search all BMDs free on www.ancestry.co.uk.
In 1841 and 1851 they are living in Sutton St Mary.   Did the whole family emigrate?   Someone has altered the entry for Rosetta in 1841.  Was that you?   If not then it might be worth looking as they are obviously researching the same family.
Andrea

Hiya Andrea,

Thanks for getting in touch.

I am trying to help a family in NSW, who contacted me through Genes Reunited.  Thomas Elford & Rosetta are part of their ancestry, but they
know nothing about their family history in the UK.  I am researching the Elford's from Somerset & they obviously got in touch to see if Thomas belonged to my lot.  I have also enlisted the help of the lady who is researching the Elford one-name study to see if she can find anything as Thomas looks like a stray at the moment.

I would like to provide the family concerned with some info on both Thomas & Rosetta, even if it turns out that they aren't connected to my tree.

Thank you for the links you posted, I'll try them to see what they turn up.

P.S.  I haven't changed any details etc, so someone else must be looking for her also.

Regards,

Helen   :)

Hi
I am related to Rosetta Barrett (tt)
I know why she left England and a story of criminality on her mothers side.
They were the Canhams and two of them were transported in 1831 to Australia. She went out to look after them in their old age. She never got to do that as she married Elford. She settled in Dungog.
I have written up my family history and will happily send it to you.
I can't recall how we know she died in a buggy accident. Can you help me?
Steve

Hi and welocme
Waks has not been on Rootschat for some years but if the email has not changed they should get a notification of your reply.   You might want to click on the Modify button above your post and remove your email address.  Otherwise a Moderator will do it for you.  Too much risk of spam etc. so we try to avoid publishing them.   We have a personal message system which is private.    You could try sending one to Waks by clicking on the letter icon under her name.  I hope you can make contact.
