Jane CHORLEY of SAMPFORD
« on: Monday 08 January 07 15:25 GMT (UK) »
My ancestor Jane Hallard nee CHORLEY is shown on the 1851 WELLINGTON Census as being born in SAMPFORD.  I am trying to find her birth/baptism so far to no avail. She was born circa 1794.
Is Sampford likely to be SAMPFORD ARUNDEL as I believe it is not very far from Wellington.  Nothing is in the IGI as far as I am aware.
Any help would be appreciated.
Sand

I've got the Sampford Arundel parish registers at the local LDS church. If you don't already have this info, I'll check for you next week. Please advise.

P.S. There are a lot of Chorley/Churleys in Sampford Arundel so it's probably the birth place.

Hi Sand,

She's there  :). Jane baptised 30 Aug 1795 daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth Chorley.

Also: Sarah bapt 20 Feb 1791 daugh of Lewis and Elizabeth Chorley and
Lucas bapt 02 May 1803 son of Lucas and Betty Chorley.

And: Lewis Chorley, bachelor, and Elizabeth Hurford/Harford, spinster, both OTP married 31 March 1790 in Sampford Arundel.

Lewis Chorley living in Sampford buried in Sampford A May 31 age 21 and
Betty Chorley abode Wellington was buried in Sampford A 26 May 1843 age 79

I wonder if Lewis Chorley is the son of Moses Chorley whose name seems to come up in my research quite a bit. Moses married a Sarah Fry (of Culmstock) in Sampford A on 03 Aug 1772. I've got Frys in my family in Sampford A but don't know if/where this Sarah Fry fits in.

Hope the above info has helped.
