Hi, do you have their marriage certificate, (1919 Sep Qu Lanchester 10a 858) which would give Thomas Wm's father's name and occupation, to find them in 1901 census.  There are quite a few suitable candidates so you really need his father's name.

I also checked the site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk from 1885-1890 and there was only one marriage for a John Pilmer & Hannah in 1887, one birth for an Isabella in 1887, and one birth for a James in 1889, so you'd need to pay to view those records

Hi. Barbara.
I have a copy of the marriage certificate fro 1919 which gives me all the information needed.
The only problem is I can find  the Pilmer family back to Scotland but not the Gibson's.
Thomas was born 1895? Where ? .
Checked 1901 census for Thomas and his father Edward but don't really know when they
were born and where. Also checked the Lanchester census as that was were the marriage
took place. No Thomas William or Edward.

  Thanks for your help.

What was Edward's occupation - the only other thing that might help?

Hello Burnmoor & Ecnaps,

Margaret Eleanor Pilmer is part of a large tree covering Scotland, England and the USA. I have a copy of that tree containing over 1000 entries and the master tree is a David Frank Pilmer in California.

My name is Colin George Pilmer and I am part of a tree covering Scotland, England, Australia, the USA and Canada.
David and I have shared our tree information as we both feel that there is a connection somewhere in the distant past
My Great-grandfather was George Gibson Pilmer (GGP) and my father, deceased in 1938 when I was 6, was also called George Gibson Pilmer, hence I got Colin from my maternal Great-Grandfather and the George from my fraternal Great-grandfather.

My G-G-Grandfather was called John but I can't find any records of birth, death or parents. Based on the Scottish custom of naming children based on great-grandfathers I think that the Gibson in GGP's name comes from a having a  maternal great-grandfather who was a Gibson.

A few weeks ago I had an Inscriptionsent to me about John and George Pilmer, two brothers who died in 1905 on a farm at Witton Le Wear, Durham and the 1901 Census was my lead into the location.  That same Census entry had a 12 year old boy working on the farm as a servant and he was named Gibson and the inscription mentions "in memory of my uncles"

If you have any leads on my GGP having connections to a
Gibson probably about late 1780 to 1800 time frame I would appreciate your help. Your more recent Gibson-Pilmer connection is in David's tree and I am hoping that I can tie GGP back to an earlier Gibson.

Colin

Hello Pilmer and Ecneps.

I have just noted your recent posting re Pilmer and Gibson started by my friend June (Burnmoor) way back in 2007.

Sadly June passed away quite suddenly in August 2008 without getting much further with her research into these families.   She loved the 'Rootschat Family' and I know how thrilled she would have been with the new information.

Hello Doric,

I'm so sorry to hear about June, hope you will pass on my deepest sympathy to her family.  I didn't realise when I posted my reply to Pilmer that June hadn't been online for so long.

Pilmer, it would be better I think if you were to post a separate request for a lookup for your family.

Kind regards
Barbara
