I'm related to both the McIntoshes and the Carruthers. How do you know the family? Are you related somehow? I'm anxious to know.

My gran was a Carruthers who lived in Port Glasgow the family are originally from Antrim and the real spelling is Crothers variants used in family also Crouthers and in Antrim I even found a Carouthers.  All my grans family now use Carruthers but Crothers is the spelling on birth certificates.  Hope that is of some help.

Hello!

Carrie ... are you saying that you are related to this Carruthers family? The variants of spelling surprised me and it is interesting to note the Irish origins. Thank you for that information.

Bondgirl ... My husband is related to this family. Would like to pursue this further with you.

Elsie

Could be as the Carruthers still live in area.  My gran was born in 1890s so some time ago now.  I was born in 1970s and I have original certificates hence I know the spellings.  When my great grandparents were alive their children used the Carruthers spelling to distance themselves from anti-Irish prejudice.  Good luck with your search.
