Hi joncee,

Did your William ELCOCK (listed as John on the IGI !!) and Mary CROWE who married on 23 Jan 1815 in Chelmarsh, have a son William, born approx 1815 in Chelmarsh, who also married a Mary ?

There is a William ELCOCK, born in Chelmarsh approx. 1815 and his wife Mary (perhaps nee HANDLEY) in Bridgnorth town on at least the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census. Do you have those? Their children are on later census.

That William (Jnr) was buried, age 54 on 22 May 1868 in Bridgnorth. According to a record in my new book, an Inquest was held and reported in the Bridgnorth Journal dated 23 May 1868. Would you like a copy of the Inquest?

Hope it helps,
Gwynne.

Hello Gwynne,

My apologies, the details should have read, John Elcock who married Mary Crowe, not William, I have William as their son brn abt 1815 baptised at Quatt Malvern 1/1 / 1816 mrd as you say to Mary Ann Handley, I have all the following on details ie, 1841/51/61/71/81/ what I really am looking for is the details of Mary Crowe which has alluded me in my searches, I can go back to 1735 with the Elcocks and families, but Mary Crowe is my fly in the ointment,
One thing though I did not know that there had been an inquest on William, I would appreciate a copy of the report if it is not to much trouble, to which I thank you.

Best wishes Joncee

Hi Joncee,

In case you don't know, the actual Parish register entry doesn't provide you with much additional information about the marriage in 1815.
Both John ELCOCK & Mary CROWE were of the Parish. No Father's names or ages were given. Three witnesses were all ELCOCKS.

The Maria CROWE who married soon after on 29 May was also of the Parish.

Let me have your email address so that I can send a copy of the 1868 Inquest on William ELCOCK. Verdict - died from diseased heart.

Hope it helps,
Gwynne.
