well thanks for that, but I do not know that area. There were/are at least two Northumberlands (figuratively speaking). I was bred in the south-east corner of the county, scarred by coal etc industry and full of coal miners.

 Your gang's territory was the better-looking rural north of the county, filled with ag labs.

Although having said that, right in the middle of my "birth-colliery" (Bebside, just west of Blyth) was a farm. When the pit died in 1950s, the colliery rows were demolished. But the farmhouse, although derelict, stands today.


Forgot to mention that there are some Belford baptisms of children of Matthew the saddler, online... at Genuki site..

PS... on second thoughts, maybe Jane was too young to be affected by the law with prevented "non-conformists" marrying in their "own" churches, but was withdrawn in 1837.

I too had the Mills on my mind... awoke thinking about Jane etc.. popping back and forth over the border.

I have had some success using Scotlandspeople web site... I did my wife's Duncan family, from Dundee, in very quick time, but at a cost.

Andrea - see how this affescts you once you start lol. Many a night I have tossed and turned thinking about something i have seen and suddenly the answer pops into my mind and I cannot sleep until I have sorted it. Thanks for the info which definitely looks like them.

Michael - I will have a llook at genuki and see what I can fin there as well. haven't been able to dig out the other info yet as I was busy all day updating the family tree website. Now that is a job as I am no expert on websites (I use freewebs as it is so easy)  Hopefully i have got one page (which I am NOT looking forward to !) and a photo page to do and finished

Popped into Newcastle library today....

Saw baptism of the "wrong" Matthew Mills.........

Belford "Scotch" Church. ( a footnote to the church records read... "Protestant Dissenting Congregation at Belford which was established into a Christian Society, A.D. 1776)

Bapt 17 Nov 1807 Mathew Mills, son of James and Mary Mills of Midleton, Belford Parish, born 30 Sep 1807.

So this church was a Protestant faith, not Methodist, Presb etc, that had broken away from the main body of Anglicism.

And his marriage to Jane...........

For Wooler Parish, the library did not hold the whole range of records, but bearing in mind Jane Ker was in Doddington on C1841, there was this...

Wooler Tower Hill Presbyterian Church
Baptism 2 Sept 1788, Christian Kerr, dtr of Thomas and his wife Christian of Doddington Parish, born 22 Aug 1788.

The reference to Doddington Parish is as their "address" not their faith.
