A Rootschat Meet up : Stateside

Just an update. We have about 5 inches of snow  with a possible 7 to 14 more to come . That is according to the weathermen, so who knows, but I would believe it with the way it is coming down. It is that heavy, wet snow that is weighing down branches. Very beautiful. I will try to get some pix later and post one. Snow day for the kids and they are already out in it (it is 8:20 am here).

Granma Anne, I think what we are getting now was in your area earlier this morning. They said our weather is coming from the east.

Good news: 55 and sunny by Saturday. I am not expecting it to last, once it starts warming up by Wednesday or Thursday.

So we are still on. (But didn't we plan this whole thing to be after the worst of it all? We are cutting it close! )

Kath, I may have to stick an inflatable boat in the back of my car! I am in a strange spot here. Ten miles in any direction from my place is piled with snow. I got under an inch then it turned to sleet, and then rain. It has poured here all night long. The way the low moved off the coast shoved the worst bands to the north and west of here.  The Berkshire Mountains are to my east, the Hudson River and the Catskills to my west and south. This sets a small swath along the valley up for what the weather forcasters call the shadow effect. It takes the weather moving from a certain direction and just the right temperatures at certain levels to work.  Needless to say, the rain is welcome.

Weekend temps are also something to look forward too as well. I think the snow is pretty much gone for the season. I won't complain about the rain.

It is April right!!?? I could not belive how fast the snow piled up last night. Luckily in Utica it turned to rain this afternoon and now.  I think I may need a row boat to Syracuse.  Luckily we are not in NYC.  They had a crazy amount of rain. I belive the Today show it beat a record for one day of rain set in 1882.

The oddest winter on record. Took a long time to get here and now it won't go away.

Cannot wait for Saturday. Babysitter Grandpa is all lined up for me to get away for the afternoon.

I was out shoveling snow this morning to get out of my driveway and got caught in another snowfall. Very wet, no accumulation, but very frustrating. All gone by Saturday I am sure. Can't wait. Worried about Yn9man. He hasn't been on in over a month and hasn't responded to any PMs.

Let's hope the weaterman are right for Saturday. See you all then.

Tomorrow is the day. I am very excited. We are set at Ruby Tuesday. They don' t take reservations, but she said it is rather slow on Saturdays (I believe it is in more of a business district) so not a problem and she did take my name, so we are set. If I had thought about it, I should have given the name Rootschat instead of my last name. Oh well, live and learn.

I have been getting stuff ready to bring. I am bringing my major brickwall, in the hopes fresh eyes will lend some suggestions and my Wells family info, as that is the family I have been working on most recently and have done loads of research with them, and a bunch of outstanding stuff regarding the family. I can't wait to hear about others research and get some tips on areas of research I haven't yet dealt with.

So, see whoever is coming noon Saturday.

The first U.S. Rootschat meeting was held today in East Syracuse, New York.

What a pleasure to meet with fellow Chatters! 

We had a wonderful lunch at Ruby Tuesdays and I enjoyed my Bacon Cheese Bison Burger. Not many places you get to eat buffalo meat.

We chatted about those abominable bricks that just sit in our faces and some good suggestions were exchanged. We shared some of our research and photos. I know KathMc and Nutkin had as much fun as I did and they will probably check in later.

I second Anne. We had a wonderful, 3-hour lunch, with lots of genealogy talk, as well as many other topics. Really a great time. I got some great suggestions for trying to crack my brickwall that I am going to follow up on and it was wonderful seeing Anne and Kristin's research. I won't post my pic, pretty much the same as Anne's.

I'm game for another, just say the word.
