I know I'm a bit late to this discussion, but why don't you all come to Montreal?  (I'm in Toronto, and take any excuse to go to Montreal.)  Montreal is a great city, especially if you like to eat, enjoy an interesting European flavour, architecture and vistas, and/or speak French (which is not necessary)!!  You will definitely know you have been away somewhere.

Nice thought Loo!

Maybe you could organize another meet for later in the year for all the regional people who could/would make such a lovely trip. I have "in-laws" in Montreal, though I never have been there.

Welcome to the discussion and maybe you would consider a trip to Syracuse to join us!

Montreal is a fabulous city. My husband and I used to spend time there when we lived in Vermont. It was just 90 miles away then.

You are welcome in Syracuse in April if you can make it. The more the merrier. We have so much to learn from each other I think.

I deeply regret having to say this, but it looks like we're going to have to abandon plans for a Southeastern US meet :'( ! There simply has not been enough interest expressed to make it viable.
If, sometime in the future, we can get enough interest sparked to justify the time expenditure of planning, etc., maybe we can try again.

Carl,

That's a shame. I think even if you only have a couple people who want to get together for lunch, coffee, cocktails, whatever, it would be worth it. It doesn't have to be an elaborate get-together, just whatever you make of it.

Another suggestion: we should have a travel thread, and any time someone is traveling post where to and maybe they can meet up with a Rootschatter in the area. I know we might be in the DC area and Durham, NC area in April and I go to NYC a few times a year. Just a thought.

So sad Carl. Maybe another time.

In the meantime. I know it still is a bit early, but could we have a head count on who is coming to Syracuse?  I am trying to keep a list and Kath needs to know how much space we need. If you don't want to post to this list could you PM me all I need to know is who you are and how many in your party. The list will only be shared with Kath if you want privacy. Otherwise, you bold, brave seekers post away!

I am counting the days till the first daffodil appears!

Attempted to add this comment this to my previous post but as you can read / see not successful.

Nice idea of the travel thread. Maybe "upper management" could create a separate board for that purpose.

And so many Brits in South Florida too!   Probably haven't heard of RC...  Maybe I need to advertise....
I am researching the following families:
Hurst / Payne - Leicestershire / Warwickshire / Worcestershire
Toon(e) - Leicestershire
Batchelor / Foster - Warwickshire / Northamptonshire
Hardy - Dorset

My web site has the family tree showing.  I am researching primarily the Payne, Hurst, Foster and Batchelor lines in the Midlands.
