Granma Anne -

Thanks for the invite. My fathers side of the family is from Massachusetts by way of Scotland, Canada and England. My mothers family was from upstate New York (Buffalo area) via England and Denmark.

In fact, I am making a research trip to upstate New York after the winter weather blows over.

Spring is good for me and please keep me on your list of attendees.

Thanks again.

Hi yn9man & Agnes 1896,

First, Buffalo is five-six hours drive from me & is considered western NY, so take that into account in your travel plans yn9man.  I-87 to I-90 takes you to Buffalo from here.

Second, Agnes1896 NYC is a whole enigma unto itself apart from the rest of New York State. "The City" is about two hours south from where I am. In no way will I go to "The City" unless I have no other choice. I find it nervewracking to drive down there and cars are just about impossible in Manhattan.  I live in the country for a very good reason. I love the peace, quiet, wildlife and laid back atmosphere. When one talks about New York, most people carry the impression given in the television shows. Tall buildings, city streets. they forget that there is a whole urban and suburban world surrounding "The City" and beyond that some fantastic countryside. So if you come, and if you can make it we will have to consider that you will need to take additional transportation to wherever it is we decide to meet.

I am not locking anything down until we get a better idea of who is coming from where and we have plenty of time to decide on where and when. This week anyway!

Now you all have me excited! :D

I have to sign off and get some rest for my sunblinded eyes.  Be back tomorrow sometime!

Granma Anne -

I see in my previous post my fingers got ahead of my mind or maybe my mind got behind my fingers.

My research visit to upstate New York will encompass the Philadelphia, Antwerp, Watertown and Adirondacks area. Then into Herkimer and Johnstown and a bit farther East. I believe I can also get up your way via 1 81 through Binghamton etc.

Looking forward to more details.

We have nice weather (almost 50) but the winds are a howling again today so its a little on the cool side.

Sounds as if there are more than just a few rootschatters on the East Coast.

Just a suggestion ...

Why doesn't someone (with the appropriate computer knowledge and skills)start a poll question to see how much interest there actually is? Then see where everyone is located? Then pick a time and location convenient for most of the interested parties?

Perhaps it could be Canada/US Rootschat meet.  There are a few of us in Ontario and could pop down to Western New York?
