If there are people coming from a longer distance, let us know. I am more than happy to put ideas together of historic sites and places to see depending on interests.  Lake Ontario is an hour north of Syracuse for those that like outdoor things and the Adirondacks are another 1.5 hours for those who love the mountains.  There are tons of historic sites from the American Revolution in the area between Syracuse and Utica and Albany.  Also native American History. Plus art galleries. Cooperstown and the baseball hall of fame is a couple of hours away. Antique shopping about a half hour of Syracuse in Bouckville.

The list goes on and on.... I guess if you were here longer, there are those of us who could show you around town to nearby sites. Beyond a meet to get to know each other.

Kath , granma anne -

Not trying to put any pressure on you but have you decided on the date / time for the meeting yet? I believe you tentatively scheduled April 21 or 28. If not, do you have any idea on when you will make a final decision on the date?

Ok Folks, It looks like Kath and I are the wing men on this adventure. PLEASE, all of you remember we are NOT an organized committe. Just a casual group of Rootschaters who want to match faces to names. So now, to narrow down our choices of dates. The 21st April is a good weekend for me. I have no issues with the Syracuse area but prefer a meet somewhere off of the NYS Thruway (I-90). This is best for those traveling who are not too familiar with the area. Once we have a place selected, we can send links to those who may or may not need to find accomodations for a longer stay. THEN we need a headcount. We can't all just show up at a restaurant and expect them to seat thirty people without notice can we? If we try to find any other sort of meeting place we have to be aware that there will most likely be a cost involved. Neither Kath nor I want to take on that kind of expense or problem. Remember this is casual. Time for feedback on this suggestion and a yes/no on attending.

At I write this the 21 April weekend would be better for me. I could also attend on the 28 weekend.

Granma Annie,

Good message. April 21 works for me also. Syracuse is right off the thruway and plenty of restaurants to pick from close by and easy to get to. I will start doing a little googling to see what pops up, and ask my sibs and mom, as they might have some good suggestions. I will also see if we have any other options for meeting places. There could be something at the university or a library that could work.

What do others think?

Go for it Kath.

I think we all would be happy with a place we can "spread out" a bit. Every one is going to want to see 'what have you got' or 'what are you looking for?". You know,April in this part of the world is still very much on the edge of winter.  We can still see snowfall. Otherwise a nice day in a park would also be a great thing. But that only adds to the problems of uncertain weather. So an indoor meet is best and once you see me you will know that all you have to do is feed me and I am happy!

So now we are fairly firm with April 21st, around feeding time (11am to 1pm) and somewhere in the Syracuse area.

If anyone can help Kath with a suggested location (off of I-90) please speak up.

Any suggestions welcome. I know a few places also and I will see what I can come up with. I'll let you know what I come up with. I know of one place that has a nice space downstairs and then some upstairs rooms. I'll see if we could use an upstairs room for free.

I am getting very excited about this.
