Indi, is that when I should be looking to go to Birmingham as well  ;)  ;)

I have research in the Rochester area, down to Binghamton.

Hi all

For some reason, I haven't been getting any email notifications for this thread and so have missed the conversations but have enjoyed reading through the messages.

Firstly Hi Kath (KathMc)
Would you really meet up?....that would be soooooo utterly brilliant and I am just sooo thrilled at your offer. I know it is a long way to go to sorting out arrangments but it is something that I really want to do at some point this year. once dates are sorted out..I will get back to you and see if you are available.

Granma Anne
Your reply to me is on the first page of this thread.....those of us on this side of the Atlantic can be so ignorant of the geography and size of New York State but truly I do understand that to be involved would mean that I would need to organise a trip as part of my visit....so I would still love to meet up with everyone. My only experience of the US, is New York City and Weehawken, Hoboken and Hackensack in New Jersey so I definitely think that  seeing more would be such a positive.....Sorry! Forgot to mention Wall, NJ also.  ;)

Hi Indi (indiapaleale)

A big welcome home to Birmingham ....I live here

Hi Annie (liverpool annie)
I hope we both make it.....we really need to discuss the issue of missing arm's in relation to the "Liver building"  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Look forward to seeing more on this thread

Best wishes

Agnes,

Wonderful. There is so much to see here. Upstate NY is a beautiful place. And if meeting in the city works, that would be fantastic.

Let's see.... That makes 2 in Georgia, 2 in North Carolina, and 1 in Florida, that I know of. Correct, so far?? I'd have thought there'd be more of us, somehow!

 Any more Southeast interest??

I am in Virginia darn close to the Southeast so depending on the locale .... keep me in mind.

Yn9man,

I am from Watertown and am happy to help you with any research there if I can. What are your family names for there? Maybe I know some. The library is easily accessible and the newspaper has very user-friendly archive, along with some nice people who work there. Where in the Adirondacks will you do research? I was just up in St. Lawrence County in August doing some research in the courts and library there. I found some great stuff. I might be down to the DC area in April and would love to get to the National Archives, but I don't think that will happen this trip.

I hope this happen.

Kath

The surnames in Watertown are Coolidge (Coolage, Cooledge), Campbell, and Palmer. The time frames are from the late 1700s to mid 1850s. The Coolidge family came from Massachusetts and I don't know the background for the Campbell and Palmer families.  They didn't spend much time in Watertown moving on to Antwerp and the Philadelphia areas and then to Rochester but also in Michigan for awhile.

Will send you a PM.

My family is first generation Watertown ;D. I'd be happy to help in anyway though.

Let's not plan our meet-up anytime the week after Easter. I really am looking forward to this. It will be so much fun.

Kath -

Thanks for your offer of assistance. The Coolidges (various spellings of the surname) were in Watertown (after moving from Watertown and Weston, Massachusetts) very briefly but then spent considerable time in Antwerp.  Daniel Coolidge and wife Judith Campbell both died in Antwerp in the mid 1800s I believe.

In response to availability for the Stateside Rootschat meeting just about anytime is fine with me. I'll let you and Granma Anne work out the logistics and if I am can attend that would be fantastic.  Nice opportunity to put faces to names and further our hobby.

Kath, pick a date- I am open to anything right now and really excited that we are going to do this.  Another option for Agnes is for her to go to Grand Central Station and catch a train north to Hudson or Rensselaer. I will be happy to pick her up and give her a tour of the local sights, then bring her to a meet-up.  Just an option if she is interested.

Do you think we pick a date or a place first? And a weekend or middle of week? I am going to go through this thread and see where people are and see what would might work. I would go for after Easter though, to ensure fair weather. I am concerned winter will hit in the next couple weeks and linger, because of the nice weather we have been having.

For a meeting place, the town I live in has a wonderful bookstore that has an event room and conference room available to the public. That could be ideal for a meeing place, or some area like that. When we pick a town, lots of libraries have common rooms also.
