My dad tells me that the year I was born, there was about 6 inches of snow in May!! He went skiing in Upstate NY.  Melted later that day but he said the Gods must have been all stirred up with my birth!! ;D

Granma Anne,

I remember that snowstorm you spoke of very well. It was in April 1986.

My Dad was stuck at his work--had to work "double" shifts to keep the trains moving.

Mum and I had to dug up the snow out of the doorway and to clear the driveway next day. That is when we finally "receive" Dad at home.

It was over 2 foot, wasn't it?

Kind regards,

Tees

I'm 5' 4" and it was over my knees. It may have been 24" somewhere but it was over my knees. Felt more like 28-30 inches! People don't realize that snow falls and it doesn't fall evenly. A bit more moisture here and drop of water there and it thicken's and thins as it drops. Part of my drive is shaded by tall white pines. Snow around there may be as little  as a dusting but up by my front door it may be  two feet deep. I still haven't finished my walk way yet and I may not get it done before it melts next week. Some one told me next week we'll be in the 50's. Do you think they are pulling my leg.  ::)

I don't remembe the April 1986 storm (I was in college then and who remembers much of anything), but I remember '77. Back then, people made the most of it. We had a blast. Stores stayed open as long as they could (to make a buck of course, but to also help people out). These days, storms hit and all the stores close, even though the owners or workers live right around the corner.

I also remember May 1989, we had several inches on the ground. It was a week before I graduated from college and it was unbelievable. Gone the next day. Phew.

Brr! It was a crisp 9 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday!

Had to keep blinking my eyes to keep them from freezing!

Spring must be around the corner, just tell me which one!

But Granma Anne, 40s this weekend.  :o Definitely a very odd winter we've had. Let's hope April is lovely.

And speaking of spring, last year, my son's class discussed the weather every day and for March the kids had to determine if it was a lion or a lamb day and they put a picture of either in the pocket for that day. If they couldn't decide, it became a Liam day, and my son's picture was put in the pocket. Very clever class.

Hey just wanted to get this back to page 1, as we are less than a month away now. I am thinking Applebees, if that's alright with everyone. It should have something for everyone and moderately priced. Let's have a quick head count, and then I'll call and make whatever arrangements with them.
