Hi Homeguard,

Zachariah Porter was my 3x great grandfather. He was born 1780 in Pilling and died November 1859 in Stalmine. He married Isabella Thornton 16 Feb 1802 at St. James, Stalmine.

His son, John, was born 31 Jul 1821 in Stalmine. He married Jane Swarbrick 27 Feb 1847 at the Blessed Virgin Mary, Hambleton. Jane's parents were Thomas Swarbrick (b. abt 1791 in Lancashire) and Jane Green (b. abt 1791 in Lancashire) who were married 17 Jan 1809 in Kirkham, Lancashire. Jane Swarbrick was baptised in Hambleton 18 Apr 1824.

John Porter was buried 18 Dec 1902 in Preesall Cemetery. Jane died Apr-Jun 1884 in the Garstang District.

John and Jane had 4 children - Thomas b. 8 Aug 1847 Hambleton; James b. 2 Aug 1849; Isabella b. 1851 in Caton, Lancashire; Jane b. 5 Feb 1854 in Caton. In addition, Jane had an illegitimate child - Elizabeth Swarbrick b. abt. 1843 in Hambleton. She married a William Jenkinson in Pilling in 1863.

I've got much more info on the Porters.

Cheers.

Phil.

Hi Phil, hoping you can help me. I found your post by chance. I think Zachariah could be my 3x Great Grandfather.

My Great Grandfather was Robert Porter born c1836, who on Census forms puts his birth place as Out  Rawcliffe. In 1861 he was living with his first wife Elizabeth at Preston Lytham Road, Warton,Fylde. On 5th Sept. 1865 he married my Great Grandmother Ellen Procter at St. John's, Out Rawcliffe. In 1871 he had moved to Harwood Fields, Middleton, Bury, Lancs.
On his Marriage Cert he has James Porter, ( Zachariah's son ? ) as his father. I think tho' he may have been born out of wedlock to Betty Roskell who married a James Porter in St. Michael on the Wyre, Garstang. Hope this isn't too confusing but would appreciate any info you may have. Look forward to hearing from you .
Cheers,
Steve Porter, Bury, Lancs.
