The Elland PR's may not have included the 'child' chapels of the parish. (ie Ripponden).

Try emailing the calderdale library to see what they have filmed (yet not indexed/published).

Happy New Year to one and all at Roots Chat.
Jill,
Sorry to muddy the water but, I have found a marriage, on IGI via Family Search, Thomas Crawshaw to Susannah Rainforth on 3 March 1767 in Elland.

A very happy New Year to you too David.

Yes, I'd already found the 1767 marriage between Thomas Crawshaw and Susannah Rainforth! There seem to have been 2 Thomas Crawshaws baptised in Ripponden at this time - one in 1726 and the other in 1731 - and, looking at the children and their dates, I think my Mary was the daughter of Susannah.

So, panic over - for now!!  :-\

So, it looks as though Mary Crawshaw's parents were Thomas Crawshaw and Mary Whitely (does this mean I'm distantly related to the late Richard Whitely?!! Oh no!!  ;D)

You'd think, if they married in Elland, one of them at least would have originated from there! I'm thinking that they both probably came from Ripponden, in view of what Pauline says about the choice of marriage places.

Jill

What about the surrounding area for Ripponden, as in Stones and Rishworth Triangle, ETC are also listed on the IGI as Ripponden mine are from Rishworth. As i have been and looked up in the parish records of Rishworth Independent Chapel to confirm this. and yes there are a few Whitleys in there!

Hi Jill (and anyone else who is interested)
The Elland PR's can be found on this site

http://calderdale.gov.uk/wtw/index.html

but if you don't have the year, they take a bit of sorting out because most of them are not indexed - look at the back first !!!

good hunting
