   Only just looked for wife in last couple of postings..so many spellings and each one has varients in Portsmouth area possibly connected back through the mists of time. I don't think her name was reported by all accounts.

We can rule the 1899 marriage out - I can see the couple in 1901 and they are not the ones...

We didn't find him on 1901 .... that's why I've been checking Boer War references and barracks census ....... but haven't found anything yet !!  :-\

    The hired Transport Jelunga has arrived at Malta with 2/North Lancashire Regt. She will embark the 1/Lancashire Fusiliers to Crete. She will there embark the Rifle Brigade for the Cape.

Me too Annie.....I don't quite know why I have this gut instict that the boy from the quite backwaters of Sussex was not in the Boer War.  This sits better with me.

Hi all, great topic.

Has anybody asked on the armed forces board(neil1821) for a lookup in the Queens South Africa medal rolls to see if he is listed, he should have been if he was in the Boer war and Neil has the listings for the Royal Artillery.

His grave, unmarked, however the fresh flowers, laid on behalf of us all, are about  where his headstone would be, were he to have one.
