How can you have "Maj-Gen...all the principal officers of the Royal Garrison Artillery in the town also attended, as well as about 500 non-commissioned officers and men, all the other corps in garrison likewise sending representatives."

And yet, no memorial?

Thanks for your help Wendi (and Jerry!)

Regards, Emma ;)

Or maybe there's a plaque somewhere .... but where ??

No probs Emma, it's interesting :)

How can you have "Maj-Gen...all the principal officers of the Royal Garrison Artillery in the town also attended, as well as about 500 non-commissioned officers and men, all the other corps in garrison likewise sending representatives."

Jerry said that maybe because it was an accidental death to army did not feel the need to mark the grave, and that, were there to have been a wife, perhaps she re-married and also did not feel the need to mark the grave either.

We haven't been down the "did he have a wife route yet have we? There is no mention of family in the Times article  :-\

Evening!

A quick update...

Had a reply from Henry's 2xGt Niece!!  She is in Australia.  And, best of all, she says she has a photo of Henry!!!  Yay! Obviously I will have to ask about posting it here, but it's good to know.  Will let you know when I get it!

She is interested in Henry's Brother James (Annie - you kindly found Uncle James and Aunt Julia - any more on them?!) - shown aged 15 in 1891 - can anyone find him in 1901 or after?

Am really excited about this photo...can't wait to see it!

Regards, Emma ;)

Not yet...don't think he was though...will ask more next time.  Have replied, telling her that Henry's causing quite a stir on here!!  Who'd have thought it huh?  Nearly 97 years later and he's become famous!

Also said (I'm such a volunteer!!) that 'we'd' (is that the Royal we?!) have a scout around for info on his siblings...on your marks... ;D
