Ontario death registration lookup
« on: Monday 25 December 06 18:31 GMT (UK) »
I am hoping that someone might be able to please locate the death registration of the following person in Ontario:

William WATSON, born ca. 1830 (+/- a couple of years maybe) in Ireland; died abt. 1905 in Cardiff (?), Peterborough East, Ontario. I am unsure as to whether he was the son of James and Elizabeth Watson or Robert and Isabella, as they werre brothers, each with a son named William.

I'm curious what information might be found for that death, such as place of birth, perhaps names of the parents, etc.

Many thanks for any help!

Raymond

Hello,

This is the only one I found that was anywhere near close.  The actual record says 72 which would put him born about 1832.

 William Watson
Death Date: 16 Jul 1904
Death Location: Haliburton

Gender: Male
Estimated birth year: abt 1882
Birth Location: Ireland

The bad news is that it only says Ireland for birth....did William have any sons over here?

Jeff

Hello,

Thank you for having a look for that for me. William did have sons - William (b. Apr 28 1866 in Seymour, Northumberland East, I believe), Gilbert (b. ca. 1871 in Seymour), John (ca. 1872) and James (ca. 1877). The last two were born in either Seymour or Cardiff [Peterborough East].

Would birth records for the children mention where the father was from? Because William's cousin (and my ancestor) James had many children, the youngest being George Washington Watson, born 3 Feb 1898 in Herschel, Hastings, Ontario.

Either way, thanks agin for the help!

Because William's cousin (and my ancestor) James had many children, the youngest being George Washington Watson, born 3 Feb 1898 in Herschel, Hastings, Ontario.

I found the marriage certificate for James Watson and Priscilla Toms (George W's parents) and it states James' parents to be Robert and Isabella Watson.  So if William is James' cousin, William's parents must be the James and Elizabeth you mentioned.

This may be James Watson's death.  The names appear to fit, as does the place.  His age is older than I would've thought, but having tracked him on the available Canadian censuses, he was never consistant with his age anyway.  I have a feeling he was significantly older than Priscilla and probably lied to make the age gap seem more respectable.

Do you know who William Watson's wife was?  I think I found the family in Cardiff, Peterborough East, in 1881.  His wife was called Rachel if you can verify that.

There's a marriage in Hastings County between a William Watson and Rachel Mandell on 10 December 1867.  William's parents are stated as James Watson and Elizabeth Johnston.  Could that be right?

Silverhawk,

Thanks a lot for the searching you have done for me! Yes, William's wife was Rachel, although I never knew her surname. And his parents were James and Elizabeth Watson...once again I did not know her maiden name until now.

Robert and James were brothers and, as you have shown, my Robert was born in Co. Tyrone. What I am still unsure is whether their children were also born in Co. Tyrone or another area in Ireland, before they left for Canada.

As for James, son of Robert...yes, his age seems to be all over the place! His birth seems to have been between about 1835 - 1843.

Many thanks, again!

Raymond

Unfortunately, I could not find the year of immigration. I thought that it might be listed on the 1901 census, but unfortunately not.  Possibly you can find out more information with some of the above sites.

Hope this helps.
