New Bridge Inn, Newhaven
« on: Saturday 23 December 06 17:00 GMT (UK) »
I have found that my GG Grandmother, Eliza Fanny Richardson,  was the proprietoress of the New Bridge Inn (now the Bridge Inn) on Bridge Street, Newhaven between 1905-1915. Does anyone know where we can find any old photos of the pub?

Have you tried contacting the current owners?   They often have photos from the past.    Lewes Record Office might have some.   The local bookshop might sell  local history books or the library will have them.   I have a feeling there is a museum there too - there is certainly the Fort centre though that is more aimed at military mementoes.

What an elegant looking place.  A far cry from the Newhaven of today!  And there obviously is a museum too!   Well spotted Newfy.

The  photo link is the BRIDGE not NEW BRIDGE which is the other end of Chapel St and a later building probably c 1865 when the draw bridge was replaced with a swing bridge. It is now a camping shop. Photo on its way to bluenovember as now and in 1915. Pete

The museum is at Paradise Pk Garden Centre, we have a huge indexed photo collection and a wide range of family history records-cemetery, schools, census, Blue books etc as well as an assortment of trees from some of the larger old established "tribes".
see www.newhavenmuseum.co.uk. Currently winter opening, weekends only 2-5pm. Can do "out of hours" by prior arrangement
