Neely family Limavady

Great grandma Eliza Jane Neely christened Newtown Limavady 1863 according to LDS.  Parents Alexander Neely and Jane Walker.   Alexander stated in later documents to be a joiner. I'm new to research in Ireland.  How do I start to find where these people lived, who their ancestors were?   Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hello jack, found some info on irish genealogy that could be your relations.alexander neely married  jane walker 1862. eliza jane neely married william logue 1888.eliza jane neely married samuel laird 1906. civil records start here 1864 before that it would be church records. there is census only for 1901 and 1911. hope this helps.

There are church records you might find information in but you need to know what religion. For example:

Drumachose Parish Church (Church of Ireland)- baptisms 1729-52, 1804-32, 1837- (marriages and burials similar dates).
Limavady 1st Presbyterian Church- baptisms 1832-39, 1861-, marriages 1832-41 (civil registration starts 1845). Most Presbyterian churches do not keep burial registers.
Roman Catholic- baptismss 1855-, marriages 1856-, burials 1859-69.

Also, bear in mind that LDS record is a record submitted by someone, not a record actually extracted from church records. Also, 'Limavady' could refer to someplace just outside the town.

All the information I have is as follows.

I have the marriage cert of Eliza Jane Neely to William Edwards (my great grandfather)  in 1882.  Address in Wolfe Street, Liverpool.  Father shown as Alexander Neely. Occupation Joiner.   1881 census for Liverpool show Alex Neely, Head, Male aged 34 born Ireland, occupation joiner. Wife Jane Neely 32 born Ireland.
Daugher Elizth J. Neely, 17 born Ireland.  James Neely son 15 born Scotland.
John Neely son 8 born Ireland.

IGI, if it can be trusted, shows a James Somers Neely born 24 Aug 1864 Anderston, Glasgow.  Parents Alexander Neely and Jane Walker.

IGI again shows christening Eliza Jane Neely, 02 Mar 1863, Newtown Limavady.  Parents Alexander Neely and Jane Walker.

IGI shows marriage 03 Feb 1862 Newtown, Limavady. Alexander Neely and Jane Walker.

I appreciate the leads you have given me.  I'll give them a try.

hello again jack,i checked my b.i.v.r.i and found this alexander neely m. jane walker 3-2-1868 drumachose derry ire.collection civil reg.  husbands father samuel neely. wifes father james walker. source fhl film 101440.

Thanks Mary.   I'm keeping a record of every snippet of information everyone gives me.  I'll sift through it all and see if I can come up with something.  Maybe someday I'll visit the area to try to find out more.
