It is still and always has been illegal to marry your niece. Society's view (and the church's) has not changed. It is still considered an incestuous relationship - within the forbidden degrees of marriage.  It is also not a good idea genetically to encourage relationships which would produce children within closely related family members. The closest legal relationship allowed is between first cousins.

Toulouse-Lautrec the painter is a good example of the genetic disorders that can happen when families 'inbreed'. He was not a descendant of an incestous relationship but his ancestors were closely connected and his own parents were first cousins.

http://homepages.gold.ac.uk/genuki/MDX/Kensington/KensingtonHistory.html

Now a London borough, but in the 1860s part of Middlesex, since then strictly speaking London consisted only of the square mile of the city.

Elizabeth Comport's death was registered in Kensington registration district. In 1875 this would include Kensington, Chelsea and Paddington districts. Where a person dies, particularly in London is not necessarily where they are buried. There were many London cemeteries the largest of which was actually in Woking Surrey.

Hello - I have also been trying to find Elizabeth Anne Jessop. My great grandmother was Lena Hayward b.1855 who was the daughter of Charles Hayward and Elizabeth Jessop. Lena had a twin brother called Robert and was sister to Rachel Anne Hayward who apparently married her uncle - George Jessop.
I have also come up against problems in identifying Elizabeth Comport and whether or not she was Elizabeth Deaves! The dates don't seem to add up and as someone else mentioned, it appears that she may have married 3 times but again that doesn't seem possible.
I would be very grateful if you could let me know if you have found anything else since you posted on Rootsweb some years ago.
Many thanks Cilla Alexander

To montymops,

I have not recently done anything more on my husbands side of the family tree for that is also his relationships. but i do have elizabeth deaves b. abt 1781 married to henry jessop b. abt 1806. they married around 1817. but as for elizabeth comport i have not really explored that area. i do have though elizabeth deaves parent's and they were i believe samuel and elizabeth, no maiden for her mother.

if i find anything in regards to the family tree i will definitely write you back on the board.

I wanted to send you a PM but it keeps coming up "You are unable to send a message." I am related to this line through my biological father's side, confirmed by my ancestry DNA test. Is there a way I can contact you? I have some questions I think you might possibly be able to answer, I never met my biological father.
