There are ongoing projects at the NAS to digitise records from across Scotland.

This page gives news on progress and useful examples of Kirk Sessions pages so you know what to expect if you get the chance to visit the NAS.

The NAS on Princes Street, Edinburgh has terminals which are free to visit where you can view many Kirk Sessions for free online.  These are NOT indexed though so you click through the pages hoping your 5xgreat granny was naughty enough or virtuous enough to be mentioned.

Update: the older minutes of most Kirk Sessions are now free to view in the Virtual Volumes section of Scotland's People.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
