Hi Cous,
Just a quikie. Yes her father was George, brother George and a sister Maria.
George, was the eldest son's name for at least 3 generations.

hi, Ihave just returned from all xmas and newyear celebrations in different parts of the country, hence the late reply to your post.
Nothing at all to do with your ancestry, but my mother actually sang with Carol levis on the palace theatre under name of EveLynn your post brought back many memories.

Hi.
I was just scrolling through the requests and found this one.    I put in a request quite a while ago for info on the Palace Theatre.
I have an old autograph book that must have come down from one of my Aunts, I asked for info on any of the acts, but didn't get very far!

The autographs are as follows :
Andrio Rodrigues Reos    on  31 - 12 - 26
The Flying Reos               on   1 - 1 - 1927
Whit Cunliffe
Billy O'Connor                  on  1 - 1 - 1927
Another one of The Flying Reos   on  1 - 1 - 1927
Russell & West  "Long & Short"   1927
Robert Maclachlan
Leslie Stuart/Smart

It was interesting to read the info that Mike from Leicester sent about the Palace.

I'm pleased to read you've found a rellie too !

Regards
Foz

Hi

Im trying to help my mother trace her family history.
My great grandfather Frederick Warren Born 1903 on Churchgate Leicester.
In his teenage years possibly 13 -15 he was a Charlie Chaplain impersonator at the Palace Theatre for around 6 weeks until his father found out and banned him from working in the theatre.
We would love to know more if anyone has any information - maybe you ave an old flyer or programme with any details on. Perhaps he was a support  act for someone famous!
We would really appreciate if anyone has any information of any use whether it be on my great grandfather or the palace theatre from around 1916 - 1920.
Many thanks

And also if anyone knows anything about Churchgate 1903 ish such as old photos etc... my great grandfather was born at number 64 which dosent seem to exist anymore, might be a furniture shop. Any info appreciated! wow this family history research is addictive!!

Hi Tufty-----Just come across this site by chance.
A bit late in the day but my family lived in Churchgate at No.73---otherside of the road to your relation.
The Palace was just around the corner and from his house he would have been able to nip down Mansfield Street and dodge into the stage door within a minute!
Our family also built the theatre as my Great Grandfather was a pal of Oswald Stoll---to our eternal shame we were also the family who demolished it!
I believe the round sign that used to be on the roof is in some garden in Skegness!
I will visit family archives to see if there are any records of that area of Churchgate.
Unfortunately my Grandfather was Churchgate fire warden during the second world war and burnt most of the records in case an incendary bomb hit the place!
