Palace theatre Leicester

Hi

Researching my mothers side of the family and i was told of our family linking to the Palace Theatre Leicester...I understand the Cashmore family owned the theatre at sometime.....
Would anybody have any information regarding the Palace Theatre Leicester..

Trade Directories list the Following Managers for

“ The Palace Theatre” Leicester :-

1903. ~ 07…….Oswald Stoll.
1908. ~ 11. ....Hatton. C. Finch.
1912. ~ 15…....G.F. Reynolds.
1916……………….Trueman Towers.

Two performances 6.45. & 8.50. pm. Nightly.

From 1908 they were also
responsible for the
" Floral Hall Picture House "next door.

Could anybody tell me when the Palace Theatre Leicester was built?...limited information on the internet and am i correct in saying it was demolished after  w.w. 2

“ The Palace Theatre Leicester.”

1901.
Erected on the site of old Floral Hall
At a cost of £ 50.000.
With seating of 3,500.

Oswald Stoll Managing Director.
The Hall was deigned by Frank Matcham.
Built by George Duxbury & Sons.

Opening night 17th. May 1901.
Upper Circle added 1913.
Extra Waiting rooms added 1938.
Prices :-
Private Boxes ~ 10/6d., 7/6d.& 5/-
Grand Circle ~ 1/6d.
Stalls. ~ 1/- ( Tip up seats)
Upholstered seats ~ 6d.
Balcony. ~ 4d ( Upholstered seats.)
Gallery. ~ 3d.

Jimmy Young appeared on stage in King of Discs 1953.

Cyril Dawking Manager … 1953.

Theatre CLOSED early 14th. Feb 1959.

Sold to Sketchley Ltd. 21st. Feb. 1959.

Bulldozers moved in two weeks after this …..

Hi Darryl,
  My Gt Grandma, "Elizabeth Cashmore" nee Tandy  was a "cleaner" at the Palace Theatre Leicester. She used to take me with her now and then. Everyone loved her. She was such a tiny lady 4ft 5ins,
   The family were showmen traveling the country with different fairs but based in Leicester in the winter months.

Thats rather interesting information you have revealed,I was wondering if there might be a link somewhere......my ancestor Percy Ralph Cope married Florence Cashmore, parents being George Cashmore, Annie Cashmore(both were called Cashmore)....Do you have any photographic archives/memories etc you would be willing to share......P.m. me if you would like to share...

 Yes there is a link, Florence Cashmore's brother George was my Grt Grt grandad.
  I have most of the family tree if you are interested in the Cashmore's. I will p.m. you about them.
  It will after Xmas now, as I'm getting ready for my lot to arrive for Xmas.
