My Grandmother and Great Grandparents from Newry County Down Ireland!!
« on: Friday 15 December 06 16:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone can help with my grandmothers birth and also any information on her parents marriage.

My grandmother Mary Carney married  Thomas Ferguson on 27th July 1903 in Dundee Scotland, she was aged 23 years.  Her parents were John Carney who was listed as a Hairdresser and his wife Mary Carney (nee Kennedy). One of the witnesses was a Mary Carnie

I have since found out my grandmother was born in Newry County Down Ireland and as I can't find her or her parents in any census I now know they all did come from Ireland.

I have been trying to find the birth of my grandmother which would have been about 1880 going by her age of 23 years of age in 1903 when she married.

I am also trying to find her parents marriage but haven't had any luck so far.  I think they would also have married in Down Ireland.

I never did know if my grandmother had any siblings either.

Can anyone help please. :)

Elizabeth

I think a 1880 connection may be found in Mary Lennons superb work ie www.lennonwylie.co.uk/alphanames1880c.htm
Carney, N., hair dresser, 4 Short Strand
Another useful Belfast site is being updated at the moment Glenravel Project, I would check out the Clifton Cemetry once it is back and running.
I did check out Carney in Ros Davies Co Down website use google to find, but I only looked for Marys,  That website will give you clues for locations in Co Down Carney connections
Good Luck in Mary Lennons own words, Jim

Hello Jim,

Thanks for the information on the Mary Lennon website and the Glenravel Project and the cemetery.

I have also never heard of the Ros Davies Co Down website either but I will try that one too.

The main problem I have is not knowing how to find Irish websites.  As with my Thomas Collins born 1841 family from County Monaghan in Ireland whom I have been searching for 2 years!!

Many Many thanks for all the information you have given me, I will be very busy checking it out tonight.

Hi again Jim,

I tried that  website www.lennonwylie.co.uk/alphanames1880c.htm gave me but it does say Carney, N., hair dresser, 4 Short Strand this maybe could be his father as the name is N. Carney, my great grandfather was John Carney.

Where/How did you find that, is the web address you gave there Ancestry Ireland where I would find it??

Sorry I am just a bit shocked, I have been looking so a long for my grandmother birth but it does look like her parents, is it the marriage??
How do I view this?? Is there any chance my grandmother birth will be there i have the reference numbers and everything!!

Hi again Colette,

I know you are offline just now but I just had to have a look at the website address you gave me but I am lost as to where to go when I get onto it.

Can you please help??   I don't know where you are but I am in the UK and I think maybe you are elsewhere and in a different time zone to me.
