1891 Census Lookup - Thomas GENTLE
« on: Wednesday 13 December 06 15:25 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find this family in 1891:

Thomas Gentle, 1837, Abbots Langley
Martha or Amelia, 1840, St Albans
Amelia, 1864, St Albans
Selina(?), 1865, St Albans
Emily Jane, 1867, St Albans
Thomas, 1869, St Albans
Florence, 1875, St Albans

In 1881 they lived at New England Street, St Albans and in 1901 they lived at West View Road, St Albans but they seem to have vanished in 1891.

Thanks!

Ive also had a look cant find them in 1891 they must be mistranscribed.
Heres the marriage Thomas Gentle to Martha Amelia Chapman Grimshaw in Qtr Sept 1861 St Albans.

Have found Thomas with his parents in the earlier censues

Welsh lady -

I have got Thomas Gentle in 1841, 51, 61, 71, 81 and 1901, I wanted 1891 to complete the set!

Thomas is my Great great grandfather, his daughter Ellen (1862) is my Great grandmother (she had married in 1884).  I can find her OK in 1891.

Thanks

Peter

Hi,

You don't mention them but in 1881 there are also children Bertha age:4 and Walter age:1, they are on the following page to the rest of the family  :)

This looks like them in 1891

1891  RG12/1116  f.36  p.1
New England St

Gentle Thomas    Head  M  52  Straw Hat Blocker       Herts Abbotts Langley
  "  "     Amelia    Wife   M  49                                   "  "    S Albans
  "  "     Minnie     Daur   S  27    Straw Hat Machinist    "  "      "  "
f.36  p.2
Emily Bossus    Daur  Widow  25  Straw Hat Machinist    Herts St Albans
Bertha Gentle     "               14                                     "  "      "  "
Walter    "  "     Son             12                                     "  "      "  "

If Minnie is Amelia  :-\  then that leaves Selina and Thomas Jnr.

Regards
Daisy

Thanks Daisy,

I already knew about the other children.

Thanks for the detective work, Ancestry list Thomas as 'Gentle Thomas', who sounds a nice friendly bloke but it doesn't make it easy to find him.  How did you find him?

Hi,

When I couldn't find them in 1891 I looked at the 1881 to see if there were any other clues or neighbours that may help, when I found the other children I searched for Bertha b. St Albans 1877+/-1, and up came a Bertha THOMAS with parents Gentle and Amelia, that had to be worth taking a closer look at  ;D
