WALKEY; bef1863; Jersey, Channel Islands > NSW, Australia
« on: Saturday 09 December 06 17:30 GMT (UK) »
I'm searching for Henry William WALKEY (b.1835, Jersey, Channel Islands), son of Joseph WALKEY & Sussanna CARENDUFF.

He married Mary MOSS (b. 1845, NSW, Australia), daughter of John MOSS & Emma FOSTER at Saltwater Creek, NSW in Sep 1863.

In the 1870s, Henry and family emigrated to the USA.

I'm interested in finding out when Henry emigrated to Australia and possibly the ship aboard which he sailed.

Cheers,

Laury Walkey
BC, Canada

Hello  there

I  had a  look  at  NSW state  records

no Walkey  but  found  the following

WALKLEY Henry  21 and wife  arrived  on  the Plantagenet 1857   reference 2138, 2476
WALKLEY Louisa  19 and husband arrived on  the  Plantagenet 1857   reference 2138, 2476

which  is  around  the right age  for  your  henry

will check  the  NSW bdm's  to  see if louisa  died

Hi
I can't add much to Jenn's search, but I do see on

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au

that the marriage and births of the 4 children actually are recorded as Patrick Plains NSW.
someone with more local knowledge may tell you if this is near to or identical with Salt Water Creek.
[Sometimes these things turn out to be significant  in the longrun as you would know!

These are the registrations for four of Henry's children.  I understand that Patrick's Plains is the district or equivalent and Saltwater Creek is the town or equivalent.

Laury

It appears in the online NSW BMD index that Henry WALKLEY died in 1901 and Louisa in 1912, which precludes him being the same as my Henry WALKEY.

It would be interesting if the surname in England was WALKLEY or WALKEY...

Thanks for checking.

Cheers,

Laury
