Maiden names
« on: Saturday 09 December 06 00:53 GMT (UK) »
Hello:
I am trying to find 2 maiden names.
The first one is Jane ( Todd ) born abt 1846 in Gosforth, Cumberland, England this according to census. She was married to William Todd, born Feb. 14, 1848 in Cleator, Cumberland, England.
The other one is Elizabeth ( Todd ) born about 1801 in Cumberland, England. She was married to John Todd born about 1794 in Cleator, Cumberland. He was married a second time to a Martha Southward.

Hi

On the 1891 census William and Jane are shown as having six children :-

Sarah aged 16
William aged 13
Elizabeth H aged 11
Jonathan aged 9
John aged 7
Leander aged 2

I think all of the birth registration details are shown on FreeBMD

If you send for one of the birth certificates it should provide Jane's maiden name.

The IGI shows the children were christened as follows:

Hensingham (Ruth)
St James at Whitehaven (Jonathon/William/Sarah)

Elizabeth's maiden name cannot be on the christening records otherwise it would be shown on the IGI transcription

If Ruth was their firstborn, it's possible they married in Hensingham
