Mary Burdell Wycomb and Chadwell?
« on: Tuesday 05 December 06 18:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi I'm trying to find out more about Mary Burdell, no date of birth but she married William Watchorn baptised 28/5/1738 born in Wycomb and Chadwell and was the mother of John Watchorn born 1784 who married Rhoda Arnsby so I guess she must have been around the 1740-1800 era.

Hi, just to confirm that Mary's maiden name was not Burdell, but Burdett, or Borditt, depending on what spelling was used at any given time. She is recorded as being baptised, on the 4th July 1749 at Wycomb and Chadwell, Leicestershire.

Mary's parents were a, Thomas Burdett (Borditt) & Anne Goodicary, who Married, 31st May 1748. She had a sister Elizabeth, baptised, 17th Feb 1750 at Wycomb and Chadwell, who married a Jarvis Hill from Holwell, Leic, on the 27th Oct 1773.

Her Father Thomas was buried, on the 26th May 1751, at Wycombe and Chadwell. From what I can tell, Anne Goodicary was baptised, on the 14th July 1723 at Buckminster, Leicestershire.

Unfortunately, I have so far not been unable to locate Thomas's baptismal record which is a shame as the Burdett name can be traced back to the Doomsday Book, to a Hugo (Hugh) Burdett, who held lands in Lowesby.

I do hope the information is of interest to you.
