Hi Julz

Finding more info could be a problem unless you have some idea of the type of company he was a director in. If the company still exists they will have archives. If not then there may still be an archive of their records held by the Scottish Archives. Unfortunately many companies dumped their records when they folded.

It may be worthwhile looking in the Edinburgh papers like the Scotsman for an obituary. They often mentioned the company the person worked for.
Not a hopeless task but it will involve a bit more digging than usual.

Thanks very much for your reply,
I have been on the scotsman today with no joy, I have worked backwards to see what profesions he had looks like it could be a Baker, He was a Bakery Manager on his son 1930 marriage.
Also the Son born in 1885 was a dentist in so thats looking like another avenue,
I have 2 addresses of both father & son so been looking at them. Im finding it very exciting as its a long way from my usual finds of Elliots in the borders most of which were shepherds

Im now not sure how much info i can post in a message,

Thanks
Julz

Hi Julz

Don't worry too much about the info you post as long as the person is deceased he/she is no longer part of the 100 year privacy legislation.
It is a simple way to protect the privacy rights of people who may still be alive (like my 94 year old mother - she would resent her birth details spread all over the internet)

It sounds as though you have narrowed down your search quite a bit. A pre-war Edinburgh directory would give you a list of all the larger bakery firms at least.

You're right. Searching for rellies is more fun than watching predictable television drama and so much more personal.  Its cheaper than a night out once a week too and you end up with insights into the lives of your ancestors.
Enjoy the search.

Thanks,

I understand what your saying about privacy rights.

Im now hunting the trade directories not too easy, also in the last half hour that the dentist surgery is still standing as a dentist's so thats great.

thanks
