McMillan/McKirdy in Greenock

Alexander McKirdy's birth (1807) and death record (1871) show his parents as being Alexander McKirdy and Mary McMillan.  However,I can find no record of their marriage, no birth record for either.  Any suggestions?

have you found your alex(1807) in the 1841 census?

Thanks Joe. I'd found the entry for Alex and Cecelia but then couldn't find any record of their marriage, or the births of their children.  Alex was married 3 times - Cecelia, then Helen Lamont,then Elizabeth McGillvray who is my ancestor.  I hadn't realised before today that Alex and Cecelia had had children - wish I could find out more about them.  Any thoughts on how I could find out more about Alex's parents.

when did mary mc millan die? was she remarried? would she be on the 1841 census? same for alex

Hi Joe - I'll always impressed that here in Australia I can get an immediate reply from Rootschat - it's fabulous.  I've found two Marys in the 1841 census, but I don't think either is mine.  the only Alex I could find was the son, ie Cecelia's husband.

Hi Joe, I've found nothing on the deaths of Cecelia or the children.  Looked for the children in 1851 census and can't find them.  Would welcome any other thoughts.  When you said post the death certificate, did you mean to put it on on this site?
