Can someone please advise me as to what is the best size- in cms or inches- for the attached photo to be printed? Also the range/max/min dimensions? I'm a newbie at this.

The recent rootschat history of this pic  is that I had to reduce the scan of the original from 600 to 250kb to get rootschat to accept it, then Colin kindly cleaned the photo up for me- it is on the list as "Bradford Cricket Team 1860s" and was a dreadful mess.  My cricket mad brother has a birthday next weekend, and a print of this of a size he could frame would be an inspired gift- especially as the team has our grandfather in - the one in the pads.

Is the correct procedure to just  download the file to a CD and take it to a kodak shop for printing?
What directions do I give them - and anything else Ii should say?

If someone can give me some guidance in all this I'd be most grateful

Thank you,
charlotte

Hi Charlotte

As you can see from the picture below, this picture has a print size of approximately 7.6" x 7" so that answers your first question. Given the condition of the picture, I would also consider one slightly smaller in dimension which can and does often give the effect of better quality. I personally would not make this particular photo any bigger but then thats my choice.

I think you will find where ever you take it, you will find them helpful and offer the best advice. If you tell them you want to be able to frame it, I am sure they will work out the best print size for you. I have only ever done this once (at Boots chemists) a few years ago and I was able to view all the options on screen before selecting a print. Putting it on a CD should be fine. Hope this helps.

I shall try to simplify this as much as poss'.

96 pixels per inch - round off to 100 pixels per inch

7.667 inches by 6.906inches -round off to 7.5inches by 7inches

from the above we have 750 pixels by 700 pixels (rounded off values)

I will never print at less than 150 pixels per inch. So if we divide 750 and 700 by 150 we have by 4.6 inches by 5 inches

all this cropped on a 4inch by 6inch print would be as the attached example.

                                                    Denn
Ford, Baines, Dixon, Platts, Peat, Proctor, Rotherforth, Dakin/Daykin, Sales, Beech, Hall, Parkin, Nightingale. ----- Harthill, Waleswood, Woodhouse-mill, Whitwell

South Yorkshire/Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire

Torremocha, Candog, Ramos, Reyes, Rodrigueus
-------Philippines --- Bohol

gippeswyc and Denn,

Thank you for your advice and help. I am very glad I asked because the original which is very badly blotched etc was quite large--c. 10x7.5 inches and I would probably have asked for that again.  Reducing it to get it accepted by rootschat has  obviously had quite some effect on possible outcomes in terms of printing.

Thank you again for your help,
charlotte
