Hi I was wondering if anyone could help with my family tree which may join on somewhere with your own.

My name is Derek Connolly
My Father is * Connolly
My grand father is * Connolly
My Great Grandfather was Patrick Connolly
My GG Grandfather is James Connolly MY GGGran was Margaret holt they married 30/10/1874 and where from
County Monaghan (aghabog as far as I can make out).  Patrick was 1 of 11 kids 2 died in WW1 I think Patrick was the 4th born.  James was born 1851 ireland but margaret was born 1858 in glasgow.  I think the families might have known each other because Margarets parents where William Holt born County Monaghan & Agnes Ramsay born County donegal.

I am looking for any info to fill in the blanks like where the family lived if it was aghabog or elsewhere and also when the families came over siblings etc...any help would be appreciated.

Kind Regards

Derek

Hi Derek

Sorry to say no connection. There were a lot of Connollys in the area and I've seen the name Patrick crop up before but fraid not in my tree - at least not so far. Also don't have any Margaret Holt's either fraid.

My James who was my gt x2 grandfather married a Sarah Campbell. Both families were Presbyterian and I have a feeling that when I've seen Patrick Connolly they were RC. (I checked all religion in the early days of looking for my lot just to make sure)

John who posted earlier is however definitely related to me through James and Sarah. I think we'd worked out we're 3rd cousins.

Best Wishes

Ann

Hi derek

I had a further look and still no connection to my lot but a wee ray of hope here. If your Margaret Holt and James Connolly maried in 1874 then there will be a certificate at the GRO in Dublin of their marriage (Civil registration for BMDs started in ireland in 1864 tho Church of Ireland Marriages were recorded from 1845 , also at the GRO).

However I did find a marriage in Glasgow for a couple with those names in 1874. Is this them?

1874   Groom CONNOLLY   JAMES   Bride HOLT   MARGARET   HUTCHESONTOWN   GLASGOW CITY/LANARK   644/10 0337

That record is on Scotland's People and gives grooms parents as James Connolly & Catherine Hart and Bride's parents as William Holt and Ann Ramsay.

What you won't be able to find is any sort of shipping records as because Ireland wasn't considered abroad people to'd and fro'd freely all the time.

If you pm me your email address I'll send you a copy of the marriage entry as it has more info than what I posted above.

There are a couple of James Connollys born 1851 in Co Monaghan on this site http://ifhf.rootsireland.ie
However it is a pay site and what you'll get is a transcript. Also worth checking is the LDS (Family Search). Just tried and won't play at the moment but that's free and worth a look.

Michael Connolly died 1933 at Garren. His daughter-in-law, Agnes Connolly was the informant.
