MACKMURDO Family
« on: Saturday 25 November 06 16:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

Is anyone researching the above name please? They are from the Edmonton, Tottenham area but from Essex too. I think they may have gone as far as Devon and am working on it.

Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo, the architect, is the most famous person of the family.

They link to Blisset, Butler, Cobbett, Heygate, Hacon, Stark, Sweet, Weston.

Hi Anne,

We are connected with Agnes Helen Mackmurdo, born 1850 Edmonton, brother of Arthur Heygate  Mackmurdo, she married John Hopkins Pugh. We have done some research on there fathers side Edward Mackmurdo who married Anne Jones in 1840.

Hi

Please do contact me as I would love to know more about the MackMurdo family.

I am not sure I have all the families correctly linked.

Hi,

I've also been looking into the Mackmurdo family tree as I'm decended from Agnes Helen Mackmurdo and John Hopkins Pugh.

It would be good to see any trees that people may have researched.

Thanks

Helena

Hi Helena, I have various branches and I believe the family came from Scotland originally as there is a connection with Closborn in Dumfries but its now spelt Closeburn. I got it from the will of Stephen Mackmurdo.
How far back have you gone?
I descend from the grandparents of Agnes Helen Mackmurdo who are Elizabeth Blisset and Edward Longden Mackmurdo born 1756. They had a daughter Anna b. 1792 who married James Heygate. Her brother Edward born 1802 was the father of Agnes Helen born 1850.
Best wishes  Anne

Hi Annie,

My great x3 grandfather is John Hopkins Pugh who married Agnes Helen Mackmurdo.

I've found some family trees online that mention Agnes Helen Mackmurdo and her siblings/ ancestors however I haven't seen any Closborn trees or the Scottish links.

It would be great to see the links you have found.

Best Wishes

Helena

As I said its just mentioned in the will of Stephen Mackmurdo.

There is no other link and it says as long as the world endures the sum of fforty pounds of money of Scotland to be paid yearly to the poor inhabitants of Closburn. [words to that effect]

I will be looking more after Christmas and maybe can come up with some answers in 2011.

Just to let you know that Vestry House Museum in Walthamstow, London holds three oil paintings of members of the Mackmurdo family:

Edward Mackmurdo (1802-1872), painted in 1840 at the time of his marriage.
Anne Mackmurdo, painted in 1840
Edward Longdon Mackmurdo (1756-1817)

The paintings are available to view by appointment, please contact Vestry House Museum: vhm.enquiries@walthamforest.gov.uk

If anyone can supply further information on the paintings we would like to hear from you.

Thanks for the information of the paintings, which I hope to view some time.

Edward Mackmurdo 1802-1872 married Anne Jones and they had 12 children.

I believe Anne Mackmurdo is his wife.

Edward Longden Mackmurdo 1756-1817 father of the above, married Elizabeth Blisset and they had 16 children.

I am descended from him through Anna Mackmurdo 1792-1867 their 2nd daughter who married James Heygate.
