Can anyone tell me anything about Elmsall Lodge I think it is in Doncaster what was it used for in 1947 and is there any way of obtaining any records of inmates. Was it some sort of Institution.

Forgive me for my late reply to your question, but I've just joined Rootschat.
I used to work in the area of Elmsall, Upton, Hemsworth, South Kirkby etc in the 1950's and Elmsall Lodge comes to mind.
If you look on the Ordnance Survey Landranger series map, sheet 111, Sheffield, Doncaster, between Hemsworth and Upton you'll see Elmsall Lodge Farm.  Grid ref 455 134.  Even on the original Ordnance Survey map of 1864 as just Elmsall Lodge.  So it would seem that your Elmsall Lodge is a farm.

"NORTH ELMSALL, in the parish of South Kirkby, wapentake of Osgoldcross, liberty of Pontefract; (Elmsall Lodge, the seat of Charles Cholmley, Esq.) 7 miles from Pontefract, 9 from Doncaster and Barnsley, 11 from Wakefield. Pop. 113."

Taken from http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/WRY/Southkirkby/index.html

This was originally an important country house at the side of the Doncaster/Wakefield road

Hi I have a picture of the Lodge in question. I just don't know how to upload it, if I can?
